Default Bypass or no bypass

For those of you who have cai's, do you have the bypass valve or any other water deterrant in the piping?

is it true that you lose about 20-40% of hp gains from using a bypass valve?

You do lose power with a bypass. Try sucking some air threw a straw then stab a hole in it and try again, just doesn't work as well.

Can hydrolock occur if its raining out? I've heard of people just driving in the rain and then poof their engine blows.

it could happen, but you could also get hit by lightning if its raining.

unless you try to drive through a river you should be alright.

Bypasses in my exp. don't work at all ... I know 3 people that sucked water in with a bypass , one of them has a totaly fuct engine
I have a cold air on my Integ and I sometimes wot on a rainy day and luck seems to be on my side (knock on wood) I also had a cai on my EG with no bypass...
Pretty much I havent heard anyone where I live sucking up anywater with out a bypass .
Ide say dont waist your money on one .

Hydrolock can only occur if the whole filter is completly under water. Get a CAI, you will love it but don't bother with a bypass. I have had a CAI for two years, I drive threw puddles all the time. A puddle has to be 16 inches deep for me to hydrolock so I don't lose any sleep over it.

okay, you have to have your CAI fully submerged in water to get it hydro-locked. and if it is hydrolocked, your engine is useless. without the bypass, you have a 99% chance of ruining your engine but with the bypass you have about a 70%. you dont lose that much power, i mean cmon, its not even getting in the way of your air flow and its not like its a big cut in the intake. its basically another filter, its not like that much air can get out through there. and plus you dont make that much power anyways.

Kinda OT but has to do with hydrolock. One of the coolest things I've seen. We were 4 wheelin a suzuki samari, guy ingested a **** load of water through his air box, stalled the engine, these guys took out the spark plugs, left it in 1st gear with the clutch out, pulled it behind another truck and you could literally watch the pistons push water out of the cylinders where the plugs were. Thing started up
about an hour later.

a little watter isnt gona hert your engine when its running, people put watter injection kits on engines, bypass valves sound good but they are just another way for aem and other companys to make money off dumb people.
