Default bseries tranny cases?

are they interchangable? i have an ls tranny(90-93 integra) and i no someone who has a cable gsr tranny but the case is cracked. i was wondering if i could put the ls cases around the gsr assembly? how much work is invloled? is it easy or somewhat complicated. i am an engine guy, not a tranny guy.

As long as they're both cable tranys, it will work. Just remember to swap all bearings and shims too.

this is wrong! cable has nothing to do with it.

if you have a 90-91 ls then the gsr gears will NOT fit into your case. If you have a 92-93 then yes, all the internals of the gsr will fit right in, no problems. You can also put hydro gears into a 92-93 cable case.

yeah, it sucks, i ran into basically the same problem. your best bet is to try and track down another ys1 case....but don't hold your breath they aren't all that plentiful. Another option would be to just pick up a vtec y1, j1, or s1 tranny. the nice thing about that is you wouldn't need a new clutch. 89-91 and 92+ b series clutches are different.

oh, and the task of swapping gears isn't that hard. I took apart 2 trannies over the summer and really enjoyed it. I didn't think it was hard at all. however i've talked to others who were very confused by the tranny internals and got mixed up. My main tips would be to take your time and lay out the internals in a neat and orderly fashion so as to not get things mixedup.....oh and use your manual.
