Blown Trans? Winding noise..
Whats up guys...Well my 99 Si has 102k on it, and now its having some slight problems. Its been making a winding noise in 5th gear for a long time now, never thought it would be a big deal. Until the other day i tried putting it in Reverse/5th, and just wouldnt go. The i forced it in, and finally it went in and its getting smoother. Reverse is rough getting in. But everytime i put it in 5th (driving normaly), makes a Winding noise, and now since that problem has occured, before i shift to 5th now, i'll have to drop the Rpms a bit to be able to put it in 5th, other wise i'll just grind.
This all occured after one day my amateur cousin took my ride for a friday night cruise with my my bros, and they said he threw the trans in 2nd twice going like 70mph. (which pissed me the expletive off, damn ricer shifting). Since then, its been making a whinding noise in the gears, but most noticeable in 5th.
Input Shaft Bearing wearing out???

5th-reverse synchro set and maybe the 5th gear on the mainshaft need to be replaced. I'd say around $200 for those parts.
The whining noise is probably a bearing. I'd say that it's the one on the end of the mainshaft, opposite the ISB. Regardless of which bearing(s), I'd replace the ISB and diff bearings as well. Figure another $125 for the bearings.

If you include stripping and cleaning the casing halves, probably a 3 to 4 hour job once the transmission is on the workbench.
You need some specialty tools to fully separate the casing halves and to remove the bearings.
If I need to adjust the diff and mainshaft thrust clearance, it takes longer because I need to order new shims, check, and order another shim if necessary.

Would you take $250 shipped for it?
I don't know about finding a good LS transmission for you. I haven't seen anybody local to me with one for sale in a long time.

I don't expect shipping to be anymore than $75 even with any increase with prices over the last two years. A packaged transmission probably weighs about 110 lb.
