Bisimoto short block
I really don't think it's only about the money issue. I searched for a while and couldn't find any off-the-street builds that utilized a Bisi shortblock. Probably because I think it's overkill coupled with the fact the OP HAS YET to say what the engine will be used for. He's also comparing a report of a so-called "bad" tune (and didn't furnish the link to the post) to a complete engine build as a benchmark of reliability? Is it worth the risk (which is what I think he's asking) with no customer testimonials to draw upon to make a decision? You would be best served by finding a local machine shop and having them do the build for you using whatever parts you require.
Ok, lets break the entire package down, assuming the customer supplies the core block.
Golden Eagle Sleeves - $1150
Bore/hone - $200
Micro polish crank $75
Rod/Main Bearings/Thrust - $200
Balanced Rotating Assembly - $200
Doesn't specify whether it includes oil/water pumps or anything like that. So, I will just assume that stuff is not included.
So, roughly $1825 in hard parts and machine work at retail pricing levels. That means you are paying almost $1200 for fluids and to have them blueprint and assemble the shortblock.
Blueprinting is something that is included in any decent builders assembly anyway, just saying.
I don't know, it's your call on whether you think it's worth it or not. I have my opinion.

entertaining. "i don't have the money to spend on the tools". You can purchase the tools cheaper than you can pay somebody to assemble your engine. "building an engine isn't that hard" Have you seen the threads on this forum? 80% of them are "what happened? pics included" not "dyno of 300whp b series" More fail than wail. Gee what is the missing denominator here? Too much R&C here. Research and Copy.
the top end. I think 1100 is fair to do a long block. top to bottom. v2v, p2v, ring end gap, thrust, oil clearance, p2w. anybody that does it for less, props to you. If you think less is fair, how much does a honda tech at the dealership get paid to rebuild a longblock from book time? do think a specialized tech should be paid less? A tech at the dealership wouldn't even touch 98% of these builds, but you'd pay more having him build a completely stock longblock at the dealership if you went there.
