Belt tensioner adjustment....
My car (91 Civic Si) makes this gawd-awful squeek when it is started and/or accelerated from a stop (when the car is warmed up it almost stops completely). I was told this is probably due to the tensioner needing adjustment. Is this a difficult thing to do? It looks like I need to remove the valve cover to get the cam gear shield off in order to set it at TDC and I dont really have time to go ripping thru **** right now. How much would the average shop charge? Thanks....
the noise you are hearing is not coming from your timing belt, as your timing belt has teeth. Your noise is coming from one of your other belts(power steering,a/cor your alternator). Have them checked to see if they are glazed or cracked, replace them if they are, or adjust the tension if they are not. I usually charge a half hour in labour to change or adjust them.
check the belt, make sure it doesnt need replaced. use some "belt dressing" is in a spray can from a parts store. or get a new belt and slap it on there. and make sure the tensioner is not too tight or sloppy. the belt may have streched and u might need a new one tho. gluck
edit: yea, its not ur timing belt. alternator or p/s
