BEARINGS?
The funny thing with journal bearings is that theoretically they're supposed to last forever
Anyway, they don't, but it's generally either the crank or the bearing that's going to get worn. So, they make them out of soft material to insure that the bearings go first.
Something to think about if you want stronger bearings.

coat OEM bearings with Swains anit-wear coatings http://www.swaintech.com/index.shtml
Bearings are soft so that any dirt that may go through gets caught in the soft surface of the bearing and not "remachine" the crank. I have seen Honda Bearings out of 100,000 mile Honda that almost new....I have seen trashed 30,000 mile bearings....the difference? OIL CHANGES....do them and don't worry about the bearings. My $0.02.
Some NASCAR teams are using Honda bearings in there engines. I don't know which ones or if they are production bearing or anything, but it was just an interesting tidbit I picked up. Maybe somebody else knows more.
