Default B18c Making Noises

Ok i started my car up this afternoon to go to work and i noticed it was ticking quite loudly and as i reved it up it got louder and faster. I was told by a friend that it was something with the valve timing??? If someone could give me some basic idea of what the problem might be or what i could do to repair it if i would have to take it to a repair shop or if i could do it myself... any help would be awesome but i searched and didnt find anything!

Thanks in advance.

Ticking probably wouldn't be valve timing. More likely your valve clearances need to be adjusted.

Its not that hard if you have a manual, you also need a feeler guage and it make a lot easier if you get the valve adjustment tool from snap on

You don't have hydraulic lifters, it's got rocker levers with screw/nut adjusters on the end.

On your DOHC VTEC head the adjusters are down low where they're a little hard to reach. The proper tool is nice, just imagine a really long deep 10mm socket with a handle. Stick a screwdriver down the middle where the ratchet handle would have been.

Otherwise, maybe there's enough room for a crows foot socket? There's some threads about taking an open-end wrench & bending it so it works like a crows foot.
