Default B16A Vtec disengaging issue

I have a 92 civic with a B16a sir2 motor and LSD. Just full bolt-ons as of right now and 40psi at idle on the fuel pressure gauge. A very recent compression test showed between 220 and 210 on all cylinders. Running a stock p30. The problem is if I make a hard pull (vtec through every gear) once Vtec engages in 4th gear (normally) it will immediately disengage and throw a CEL. The CEL will disappear once the car is restarted. While the CEL is on, no vtec. Vtec engages fine if I'm not really hitting it consecutively it seems (not really gear dependent) So maybe it's sticking? The solenoid was disassembled and cleaned last year. I'd also like to mention it seems I'm losing a little oil around my dizzy. I'm assuming it's the o-ring. And that the car smokes relatively heavy (black) in vtec and even leaves black soot around the exhaust exit. Please let me know your thoughts. This has become a neussaince to me and I'd like to get this taken care of before I continue to spend money on the build. Thanks so much for reading!

Sounds like low oil pressure or even a bad vtec pressure switch, but it could all so be a bad wire at the vtec pressure switch plug or Ecu plugs.

the cel exists for a reason. use it. check what trouble codes are stored before you do anything at all.
