did you find out how long it was used? any muffler will deteriorate over time.

unless the previous owner sprayed water into the tailpipe to try to make it raspier it should not fail in 3 months. cat should not cause a raspy noise

Check the catalytic converter (i just had mine replaced and the shields rattle exactly at 4krpm...must be hitting a certain frequency to resonate).

If not that, it must either be the resonator or muffler.

In all cases, take it step by step to figure out what it is.

ok so u think i should change both, cat. converter and resonator? the rattle sound i hear from the cat and the raspy sound i think its from resonator? or is it possible an old header can make some raspy sound? i got dc and its kinda rusty.

the header won't cause noise unless there are actual holes or breaks in it

Look at the cat. converter heat shield an see if any of the spot welds have broken. This can make that nasty rattle/raspy noise.

My Apexi WS2 used to rattle b/c it was rubbing againt a nut/bolt. I kept putting some high grade hard rubber that was resistant to heat and it worked pretty good. It kept falling out though but now it doesn't do it anymore even w/o the rubber.

i checked outside the cat nuttin wrong but i feel like theres something in there has broken and its possible to make a rattle sound right? and for the raspy sound couple of my friends said its from the resonator or water sucked in there.

high flow cats aren't all that cheap.

Change the cat and then see if the problem still persists.

Experiencing same "raspy" sound on my BRAND NEW Apexi WS II also. Installed August 15th and immediately had that sound. We thought it might have been my old exhaust manifold so I replaced that with a cheap and brand new ebay header but problem persists. FYI, I replaced the cat with a test pipe the same time the WS II was installed. It's most likely the muffler.

I will be calling Apexi today to file a warranty claim. Their exhaust systems have a one (1) year warranty. It will be a pain though because I believe they (Apexi) require for the whole exhaust system be sent back to them and I am in Illinois!

I used a ws on my hatch for 2 years with a just a test pipe, no cat and it was still very quiet. Mine was never raspy. My header and test pipe were 2.5", if you are using a small diameter cat and header, that could be the problem.

Test pipe's 2.25" in diameter. Is it proven that 2.5" will get rid of the buzz?

I couldn't say for sure, but a bigger diameter pipe usually has a deeper tone. I would get a high flow cat or just get a longer resonator, that should fix it.

Spoke with Apexi. Pleasant people to talk to. In the end and as their warranty states, exchange and returns has to be initiated by official distributor/vendor where the WS II was purchased. The real bad news is that I will most likely have to wait 2-3 months like before to get a replacement should I pursue an exchange.

So... I think I'll pursue sourcing a header and test pipe with 2.5" diameter first before sending it back. Like the test pipe, the header I have (ebay) I believe only has a 2.25" outlet.
