how far of a drive is the muffler shop? have a friend follow you or something. or hang a fake muffler on there. if you are lucky the cop will believe you and let you go. but you're in cali, so they'll probably hassle you.

This is what I would do.

Visit them and pick up a business card. Call the muffler shop on the day and let them know that you're coming. Make sure they write your name down. Drive to muffler shop with the open header. If you make it w/o getting pulled over, good for you. But in case you get pulled over, you could always show the officer the business card and tell him that you made an appointment to fix the problem. Tell him that he could call them to verify it.

That's what my friend did. He got pulled over and the cop just let him go.

P.S. OBVIOUSLY....YOU DO NOT....I REPEAT DO NOT want to get caught hauling *** on a street. Just drive like a normal sane person would and you'll have no problems.

Your chances of getting pulled over on the way to the muff shop is slim.. especially since you can explain to an officer what you're doing..

I had to do this recently after I did my swap, open header... The bad thing I encountered is that they wouldn't do any work on my exhaust system since my cat was not bolted up. I had to really talk them into letting me get work done.

I ended up having to bolt on my cat to the header before they could touch the exhaust system, just so they could cover their ***. You're not in the same boat though, so...

you act like the cops are everywhere. dont worry about it. if a cop pulls you over tell him that you ran over something earlier in the morning and that youre on your way to the muffler shop to get it checked out. if youre running open header, be prepared to give the damn thing a lot of gas. another thing is, from my understanding, the muffler shops are not allowed to work on catalyictic converters. but i could be wrong. good luck with that
