Another mini-me!
Okay first off my friend has a 95 SOHC Si motor in his 92 VX. We ran it with a DX tranny while i was rebuilding his Si one and squeezed his ZEX on it. The car doesn't feel like it used to power wise and now it smokes. I was wondering what is all has to be done for me to put his head on a 96+ DX block. I have built LSVTECs before but i have never done a mini-me. Also if this setup works will the Y8's head gasket work or should i stick with the Z6? Do you have to do it the same way running oil lines or are the SOHC blocks set up differently so that running oil lines is not needed. Also what does everyone think about running ZEX 75hp on this setup if i end up doing it. Will the bottom end hold up, are the DX rods too weak?Probably yea but just thought i would ask. Thanks in advance!
mini me is not like ls vtec.theres none of that oil line business. depending on years and who u told u, some blocks may need the oil jet removed if there, and if need be.
96+ dx ,cx, ex rods cranks all the same. its not like a 1.5 where there is obvious difference. just have them shotpeened if u are that worried.
get a y8 headgasket, and some arp headbolts.
i suggest go all motor...getsome 88-89 d16a1 pistons, for monster compression in this motor, those are d series CTR's..lol..only 36 bucks a piece too.
get as big of a cam as u can, sohc needs all the help it can get. an sohc vtec can idle/daily drive a huge cam due to being able to keep the low profile lobes moderate, with the vtec cam lobes wild (but be warned, take into account d16a1 piston valve reliefs)
ex tranny, clutch..lightened oem flywheel, whoop some ***.

Thanks, also if i were to use a 96+ DX (D16Y7) block with a 95 Si (D16Z6) block what kinda compression would i have? That would be with the Y8 headgasket. Thanks.
