Anodized color for performance parts?
Basicly i'm working on a performance parts line of oddball race parts that people can use, some of them have more than one function. Anyhow, the trick is to get them anodized for a decent price, it would be more cost effective to do them all one color. Also, the part cost would be slightly higher for an anodized part vs a non-anodized part, though the function is still there it is not as "pretty". Basicly pick the option you would most want or would purchase if you were to buy my parts for your car.
What kinda parts would you be anodizing??? Just curious... I would say black or *cast (*but you can't anodize that color)... Peace
nothing looks better than green anodizing, but most people aren't into green parts, since tein is basically known soley by the color of their products. when i raced bmx green parts got big for a bit, and it looked reallllly good.
out of your choices, it's a tossup between black and clear.

I really dont think the parts will need to be showey looking. Honestly, these are "function" parts rather than "form". Heck, I could even make them out of ABS plastic but billet aluminum is more durable and would be able to better withstand high temps.
Black has my vote too, keeps the part "nice" looking but very un-showey.

I like the raw look. especially if it's cheaper.
In most cases, I'll just soak the parts in oven cleaner to take the anodizing off anyways.

I like the silver look, makes it easier to trace oil leaks.

Anodizing does provide a modicom of corrosion protection for us guys in the rust belt. BTW I have seen some beautiful gold anodized pieces. I also like the deep forest green anodizing I've seen.

Good point... oil or fuel leaks would be easier to spot on a silver piece vs black, though black does hide dirt better.

Yea thats why i'll probably get them done, at least have them clear at the very least they arent getting all crusty looking. Those who might want them another color can remove the coloring using lye (drain cleaner) or another very strong cleaner and have them anodized to their liking or even do it themself. (Its really not hard, just not something I want to fool with myself if I dont have to. My garage is already cluster fucked enough and I dont have a basement to do it in.)
And yea, i've seen some very nice looking gold anodized parts before. Wouldnt be a bad idea for a couple things. I think i'll probably offer black and clear (silver) at first since those seem to be the best two options and most people want it that way.

Anodizing is for more than just appearance. The hard surface provides wear and corrosion resistance. I would put something on the parts for overall quality reasons.
