Default ACT defective pressure plate????!

Ok i recently purchased the heavy duty plate and ss disk kit from act for my 94 integra turbo. After installing it i had my car dynoed and made about 370whp. We pulled the car off the dyno and i took it out for a test run and right away it was very hard to shift into gear. After driving for about 5 min and noiticing that it was getting harder to shift between gears i pulled over and then could not even get the car into first gear. I ended up having to shut the car off to get it into gear and when the car was started in first even with the clutch pressed in to the floor the car would start rolling. So first thing we did was bleed the clutch lines and that did nothing. Then we tried replacing he clutch master and slave cylinder and bleeding the line again but still had the same problem. We finally decided it must be something with the pressure plate so we pulled it apart and put in the stock pressure plate and throw out bearing (the act throw out bearing was making a squeaking sound). The car shifts perfectly with the stock pressure plate and TO bearing. So I sent back the parts to ACT and now they say there is nothing wrong with the parts because they tested them. My quetion is what could possibly be going on and what can I try to get this pressure plate to work???? Any feedback would really be appreciated.

Cliff notes:

-ACT clutch will not disengauge even with clutch fully pressed
-car shifts perfect with stock pressure plate and TO bearing
-clutch master and slave cylinder already replaced
-already tried bleeding clutch line
-ACT says parts testing fine and are not defective

thank you to anyone who has any useful info...

could that really solve this problem? I would hate to take the time of installing this pressure plate again just to have to take it out again...

I had the same issue on my car, however when I took off the pressure plate you could clearly see that fingers where not at the same height. It ended up that the pressure plate had a failed diaphragm spring even though it was brand new.

yea thats the thing, the pressure plate LOOKS fine but will not disengage. could the throwout bearing being defective have caused the problem? Thanks again for feedback

The problem is most likely one of two things. First is that companies like ACT (and other clutch manufacturers) use facings with a different thickness for high-performance applications. Second is that to increase the plate load of the pressure plate many companies move the fulcrum point. Both of these can result in the pedal height needing to be adjusted after the installation. I am running a Clutch Masters pressure plate and with the pedal adjusted the clutch engages JUST off the floor. Before I adjusted the pedal it didn't want to disengage.

well I might go ahead and try re installing it and adjusting the clutch pedal but what makes me hesitate to even try is that the clutch was disengaging at first before it stopped completely after 5 min of driving. it was very hard to shift into gear but it would shift but eventually it would not go in at all. So if this still might be able to fix the problem then i will go ahead and try it again. Any other opinions?

Not trying to jack the thread but I have a similar question... I have the same ACT setup (heavy duty pp/ss disc) and my throwout bearing is also making a squeaking noise whenever I idle or drive. However, the slightest touch to the clutch pedal will make the squeaking stop. If I let off the pedal, it starts up again. Could clutch pedal height be causing this? I only ask because OP said ACT claims that the throwout bearing is fine and I was considering replacing the tob. Hopefully it's not necessary since I don't feel like dropping the tranny.

To OP: I was having problems with the setup at first myself. I couldn't shift into gear at all after I started the engine. Turned it off, and the tob must have seated itself because I then started it again and I could then shift fine after that and haven't had a problem since.

I would bet that the squeak is coming from your TO bearing cuz thats exactly what mine was doing and when I changed it out the squeaking stopped.

I guess I will try to intall the pp again and adjust the clutch pedal, I really hope it works so I dont waste alot of time for nothing....
