The check eng light recently came on. The car, 4cyl VTEC, has 70k miles on it. I know that there are 2 seperate lights, a maint reqd and check eng. This is the check eng light. A friend of mine told me that that light only comes on when it has something to do with emmissions. Im not sure I believe him. Also, the light will come on and go off. It is not a regular thing. It usually will stay on or off about 2 weeks before it changes. Thanks for any help.

 

I do have to agree with yout friend. Most of the time it'll light up because of emmision control problems.

 

What EXACTLY is usually messed up to cause the problem? Could it be scheduled or is there a real problem?
