95 Civix DX Temp Gauge
Hows it going all, heres the deal. I received a 95 Honda civic as a gift and Im trying to fix some minor problems with it. Ive never owned a honda and have no clue how to work on them. I have minimal mechanic skills, thats why Im only working on little stuff. Ok on to the question:
When I looked under the hood I realized that the wires coming from the cooling fan plug were missing (as seen below). The plug was still inserted into the cooling fan with about an inch of wire left so I ran a wire to the ground and a fuse that turns on when the car turns on, just so the fan will turn on. I know its not the right way but its getting me by. I would like to replace that wire but have no clue where it goes. I believe this has something to do with why my tempeture gauge in my dash does not work and that my check engine light is on.
If thats not the case I will need to replace my sensors which I have no clue where they are located.
In laymans terms can someone please help me with this issue.

The rad fan is controled by the ECT, [engine coolant temperature] "switch", a two(2) wire switch, [most likely a green and black lead] the switch supplies a ground to the rad fan relay when engine temp. hits around 200 degrees F, the relay in turn supplies the rad fan with power, the rad fan ground is grounded to the chassis.
The switch is on the thermostat housing.
The cluster temp. gauge is controled by the ECT "sending unit", a one(1) wire sensor, [most likely a yellow/green lead.
The sending unit is on the end of the head.
And just to be a little more confusing there is an ECT "sensor", a two(2) wire sensor, [most likely red/black and green/black] and is located on the end of the head next to the ECT sending unit, the ECT sensor supplies the ECU/ECM with engine temp.
The rad fan leads should be someplace close to the rad fan. 94

I got a little dirty yesterday.
Tested the cluster and it seemed to work by grounding the Temp sending unit.
Sending unit was bad so I replaced it and now my Temp gauge is working perfectly.
Tracked down the broken wires from the radiator fan and replaced them. Ran the car till it got hot so I could see if the fan turned on, Which it did. Then I hear a
and wouldnt you know it. There goes my radiator, apparently the guy that owned it before JB f**kin welded it instead of replacing it because of cracks.
Went to autozone 5 minutes to close and bought a new radiator. Installing it this morning.

I feel your pain, I have gone through two OEM rads and was seeing a problem with the aftermarket one but now have a MIZU aluminum rad and not even a hit of a problem.
Glad you got the rad fan and temp gauge problem solved. 94
