Default 1st question in this forum.

Alright let me start off by saying that this is my first car. I was never into cars until I got mine. My car is a 4th gen prelude, so you guys know what my question will be regarding. I have the h23 engine in my car, it's an si. So far I've done some various things, JDM headlights, clean it up real well, transmission fluid flush, synthetic oil being used. My Dad and Uncle and I did timing belt, balancer belt, ps belt. Front Rotors, brakes and shims also. So, as you probably guess general maintenance has been done so far to my car.
When I bought my car a new radiator had just been installed. I took the car back by the shop afterwards and talked to the guy who installed the radiator. He said his friend has the same kind of car and put in a Chevy, I think, smog pump? He said this put like 8 lbs of air in there. Now to me, this sounds like the same theory as using a turbo. However, how it works makes no sense to me.
Have you guys ever heard of this? It sounded weird, but somewhat interesting. If this is even possible, do you recommend doing it? If this is completely redicolous, please be kind with the responses. If there is a thoery behind how it works, I am quite intrigued.

It's possible, it will make some horsepower, but I wouldn't do it. What you're basically doing is installing an electric supercharger (commonly available on ebay from a little over $100). You can make a hell of a lot more power with other mods that are more reliable and better suited to your car. I'd consider looking into the "H22 head on an H23 block" frankenstein motor, or maybe a mild turbo setup. There is also lots of power to be made with bolt-on mods. Do some research, set a goal, and then determine where you will go from there. There is more than enough information here on Honda-Tech to keep you busy for a very long while.

I've looked into the h23VTECH but redline is much lower still, plus my engine has kind of high milage. It may be easier/cheaper to just drop in an h22. They use the same engine mounts and it pretty much a direct engine/transmission swap, right?

There is also a bit of wiring work, but the H23VTEC still out powers the H22 by a good bit. Put it this way, for about the price of a good H22, you can refresh the bottom end with new bearings, seals, rods, and the Type S pistons, and purchase an H22 head is good running order with all the other components necessary to build the Frankenstein. I'm not saying you have to do this, I'm just saying look into it a bit more.

With h23vtec, you basicly have to change the pistons to get a good compression ratio. Without rebuilding the bottomend with higher compression piston, you will not out power a h22a.

Your wasting your money on synthetic oil. Your motor already have damage that synthetic oil would have prevented.

Yes, but the h23 trans gearing sucks
