1994 Del Sol low idle when warm
I am new to forums so please bear with me if this has been posted, asked and answered.
I have a 1994 Del Sol with the D16Z6 and an auto tranny. The only aftermarket part is a cold air. The other day I was minding my business driving down the road and stopped at a light. The car died. This has never happened before and no warning signs prior. As I said it is an auto and it was in D4. After this happened it never died again, yet but it has been at 400 to 600 idle RPMs instead of the usuall 800 to 900. No check engine lights. It does not do it when the motor is cold and I'm not positive but the moter seems to be running just a hair hotter than it usually does.
Anything helps just let me know of you had this issue and what the fix was or what it could be.

check your idle screw on the throttle body and adjust it while car is running. Also you can do the same thing by moving the distributor slightly when you have the car running. worst case senerio you jumped a tooth on timing belt
Thank you both. Also I was talking to a mechanic friend and he said since I feel no issues with acceleration or cruising RPM to clean the IACV. What do you think about that? I will try both tomorrow I would like to stay away from adjusting the idle RPMs at first just so I don't end up masking a problem
yes, you can clean the iacv by gently washing the screen using CLR or lime-away to clean the crud out so the valve spins freely make sure you get all the CLR out before reinstalling and replace the gasket if needed. while you're at it might as well flush the coolant also, it can get nasty and clog up the iacv
