Default "Poor man's stroker kit" for a D16...

I have access to a D17 engine (from an '01) with a blown head. I was wondering if it's possible to 'swap' the crank into an older D16 of some kind? It's theoretically possible, seeing as how all, or at least, most D-series parts are interchangeable.

Is it woth doing this "poor-man's stroker kit"?

you'd hve to swap in the rods and pistons too, but I don't see why it wouldn't work in *theory*

Well...... what would you be stroking? .... I dont think its possible but what would putting a d17 crank in a d16 do really? give you what... 2 horse power... i think i lost money even thinking about what you just said... i vote... build up the d16...SOHC powa

Edit: From what ive heard... the d17 internals blow... and are the weakest of all the D series motors... doesnt sound worth it to me

i say you try it and if it works then everyone will start doing it. just make sure that all the clearences are good you dont want valves and pistons getting in fights. the pistons always win. sohc rule. try it in a y8 block and head, thats the best sohc.

I know I wouldn't loose money thinking about what I just said, seeing as how both the D17 crank and D16 block are free.

I've seen a D17 blow up first hand. Either the valves or rods seem to go. I've never heard of a Honda crank ripping to pieces, on the street. I only heard of a few occasions of H.O. Honda's do that at the track.

Don't these new D17 engines rotate clockwise vs. previous D and B-series engines rotating counter-clockwise? If so then I think it would be impossible to interchange stuff between D16 and D17's.

No. The D17's are a D series motor with a longer stroke. That's it.

Should I try and fit a D17 crank in a D16
**** YEAH! I've been looking for one for a while to try out! If you don't want to try give me the damn thing and I will!!!

Hey give a shot if it works then we can put it in the Honda records book. Then you will be famous and have bragging rights. Theyll call you the STROKER MAN!

Come on man damn.......you must know that if you were building a d-series monster, in the long run the extra stroke will give you more power, by law of physics.

How can you say that this would be a waste of time? Believe me, if i had the parts, you would all know if theis can be done or not. I am pretty excited to know if this is going to work.....hell, I'm not really into d-series like some people are, but new information is good information.

What should be done is actually tell us if the rods are the same length as the d16y8, or find out where the d17 makes its extra .1 liters at, if it would be possible to, maybe buy some high performance rods, use the d17 crank, and stcok pistons might make 11:1 compression or so.......

Either way if this gets tried. Much points with the d-series guru's

With the new D-series 01-03 blocks, the rods are longer and the compression heights on the pistons are lower.

compression heights are like 27mm for the 01-03 and ~30mm for the 88-00.

The 92-95 VX motor though uses the same combo as the 01-03's ~27mm comp height piston and the longer rod. Not sure about cranks tho. I'd imagine the VX crank would be easier and cheaper to obtain.

I forget at the moment, but do the new D17 rotate clockwise? Like a K-series of the same year?
