Rear disk break conversion. ej8
Is the rear disk conversion worth the time and money? I have a 97 ex civic that is originally from the north used as a commuter vehicle so the rear drums arent in the best of shape. I have replaced the shoes and pads all around but my stopping ability hasnt improved. i suppose this could be caused by a number of other things, but i was wondering if the rear disk conversion could help. i have a good budget and a junkyard close to me full of integras and civics. any info is greatly appreciated, just trying to learn so i apologize if i sound dumb.
In my opinion... no.
The rear drums are virtually maintenance free and work just fine. It's not uncommon for the originals to go 150,000 miles (or more!), so if you've recently gone through them you can pretty much forget about them.
If you want them just because they look better I can get behind that, but there is no measurable performance increase. If you have enough braking to lock up the tires that's about as good as it's going to get until you get better tires.
