Default Problems Installing Eibach Swaybar

I was in the process of installing an Eibach Rear Swaybar on my 98 Civic DX Coupe. The swaybar is made for a 99-00 Civic SI, but I have the LCA's off an SI, so there is no difference in mounting.

I'm lowered on S-Techs and I have a 15x7 wheel

My problem is that my rear trailing arm, where it connects to the UCA (I thinkg thats what its called), is less than a 1/4 inch from the wheel. I do not have a camber kit yet, but my camber isnt bad. When I installed the swaybar, and I would take a turn moderately agressive, either the UCA or the trailing arm actually rub on the wheel. Ive never heard of this problem before.

Is this a unique situation. I figure a camber kit may help, and I am in the process of ordering one, but for some reason I dont think that it will help much. I plan on getting some 16x7's which will hopefully eliminate this problem, but Id like to know what I can do to fix it now.

I also tried wheel spacers, but I dont have extended lugs, and it looked too sketchy with not much thread catching on the lug nuts.

I can provide a diagram if it helps, just let me know.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

The rear upper control arm is where camber would be adjusted. Simply installing a swaybar shouldn't cause the wheel to rub (when it didn't rub before).

I'd hold off on the spacers and camber kits till you can find out what's going on there... it's not normal. Could be something bent?

Im not adjusting the swaybar, just simply installing it. Even with the swaybar off the car, the wheels are almost touching the UCA where it connects to the trailing arm. There is maybe a 1/4 inch of clearance, if that. Im pretty sure im at a +42 offset on my wheels. Not sure if that helps.

I dont think anything is bent. I know the frame is straight because its been on a frame alignment machine and checked out fine.

Its on both sides and only happens when in turns with the swaybar installed. Thats why I thought it was weird.

Maybe tomorrow I can try to take some pictures of how close it is. Maybe a different offset and size of wheels will solve my problem.

Any more suggestions.

If your TA is touching your wheel when you turn, you've got bigger problems to worry about. Most likely it's the UCA.

The +42 offset may be pushing it with 7" width rims, but I'm puzzled to learn how you're rubbing with the sway installed. It doesn't occur if the sway isn't on?

Pics would be good!

Yeah thats what puzzles me too. Everyone I talked to said that it shouldnt matter if I had the swaybar on or not... if it rubs one way it should rub with both.

Im thinkin about replacin my wheels with some 16" Buddy Club P1's but Im gonna make sure this gets fixed first.

I'll get pics up as soon as this huge rain storm stops

I thought for a DX only the front LCA and damper fork needs to be swapped from the Si, and the DX rear is same as the CX, HX and Si.

This is true, all the rear control arms from 96-00 civics are the same.

I know the rear LCA's are the same, but one got the bolt broken off in it when I was lowering my car. So I went and put the SI LCA's on cuz I got them for free from a friend when I bought the sway bar.

The weather finally cleared up so I'll try to get some pics up. I already took the swaybar off, so theyll just be the clearance issue without the swaybar.
