Default Alignment shop issues...

well i took my car in to the shop today to have a four wheel alignment done, i HATE taking in my car to have it worked on because i dont trust that they take care of it but, anyways i had to for the alignment. Well, they called me and said that they could adjust toe but not camber since i didn't have a camber kit, obviously i know this. He said that the insides of my tires would get ate up QUICK, i have read on here that toe is a bigger factor in tire wear than camber. does anyone have any definate input on this???

also, i told them that i put the washers on the back to help a little with negative camber and he told me that by puting in the washers it actually creates MORE negative camber, so what the hell???

unless you have TONS of negative camber (-4 or more id say) then you will be fine. i gaurendamnty it.

as long as you put the washers in the right spot then they are smoking some crack.

they are definatly in the right spot. i think there just trying to sell me ****.

he said i have a "couple" degrees of negative camber. the car is pretty low.

just got the car back. on the front i have one brand new tire on the pass. side and an old tire on the drivers side with some camber wear on the inside. when i took the car in i would have to turn the wheel to the left a little to make it go straight and it still does this after the alignment, they're saying its becasue of the tires, could that be true?

yes.

using mismatched tires, espeically on the same axle, is a bad idea.

how much camber do you have anyway?

ya should have asked for a readout.

"a couple degree's" dosen't help. could be 1,2,3...who knows. and yes regarding the rear washer trick, he was bullshitting you.

I always talk to the alignment shop before I get involved. To see if they know what they're doing. Recently I found a local place and I'm pretty happy.

I go to them, ask them if they have experience with lowered cars, tell them I know toe is the only adjustable thing on my car since I don't have a camber kit. I tell them I'm not very concerned with the camber because it'll be at ~2 degrees -- and I just want toe ZEROED out. If they give me any **** about not having a camber kit, I tell them good day -- and move on.

I know my stuff when it comes to alignment, and don't want anyone else to treat me like I don't

As for the washer trick -- it works, depending on the thickness of the washer, the rule of thumb is 1 washer per degree of negative camber. Mine went from -2.4 to -0.6 with two of em, again highly depends on the thickness of the washer.
