Default B16A a good deal or NO

A friend of mines have a b16A (red valve cover)in his crx. Just recently he blew one of the rod bearings. He is in desperate need for money. He told me that he would sell the engine to me for $500 (maybe even less). Do you all think thats a good deal? Whats going to be needed? I know a rebuild, but money wise and part wise what will I need?

He also have a d16z6 with the same problem, rod bearings that he is selling me for $150. Which engine should I consider. My money is tight.

I have a b16 fos sale for 600, and have no intrest. Its mint condition. 500 seems like a tad too much, 400 would be good because the head is worth that.

build the b16 back up. Much better motor and if you have patience I would build it up with nothing but performance parts may take a while but will be worth it in the end

Maybe it would be worth $500 if it has some serious mods like cams and/or porting.

i say go for it if he gives you all the stuff to plug and play like axles tranny and such. Other than that $500 seems like too much for just a blown b16.

If the B16 has a spun rod then the piston(s) might have made contact to the head so becareful what you buy.

$350 - $400 for the motor is a fair price, since people are selling the Vtec heads for $400.

Well today he said he will sell it to me for $350 and that it spun a rod. I guess thats bad news, huh???

Well the d16z6 only needs rod bearings. Is $150 too much for this one?? What should I offer him for this one? Its out of a '93 Civic Si.

U gotta be more specific then that. What do you get for $1100 ???

We were just talking about motor only and for $650 is a reasonable price for a good B16 long block.

ok.. if he spun a rod bearing in the b16. (you can't "spin a rod") then you might need to get a new crank and a new rod.

you might be able to save the current crank/rod but there is a good chance they're toast too.

I was typing fast. The b16 spun a rod "bearing".

What would you offer on the d16z6? It blew a rod bearing. Dude who use to have it did a B18 swap and the engine is just sitting. What should I offer him for this one.
