Default oil consumption 91 accord

have 91 accord, 5spd. just rebuilt the motor on it. bored .010 over all new pistons rings, gaskets, had the head redone block cleaned and everything . new everything. have 5k miles on the rebuild. car seems to use about a half quart of oil in 500-800 miles. it seemed immediately following the rebuild it didnt use any oil. now it is. and i dont know why. i do a lot of city driving. and some eway. i just did a trip to PA. and it seemed to have used a little. my brother has same car, and has no oil consumption issues. could it be the city driving ?? pvc valve was just changed.... where should my oil level be on the dipstick mine says it holds 3.5 quarts which puts it at the bottom dot. is that where it should run ??
thanks for the help

My 1990 accord has a simaler problem. It seems to go through oil quicker than it should and sometimes when I shift in the higher RPM's (around 5200+) I get a quick "plume" of smoke behind me. If someone has any info on what may be causeing this, I would appreciate it alot. My car has 173k miles on it btw. Rest of my "mods" if you can call them that are listed in my sig. Sorry to hijack your thread man, but since its a related problem, I figured we could both benefit.

Honda says 1 quart (U.S.) or 1 litre (CDN) per 4,000 miles or 6,000 kilometers is normal consumption... beyond that, you might want to try and go to an oil that is a little bit less viscous... see how that affects it.

Mine runs about half way between the dot and the top line on the dipstick.

You should put enough oil to reach the top hole in the dip stick, the motor has a 4 qt. capacity you should fill it up. I have a '92 Accord dx 4dr 5spd and it consumes no oil, oil is changed every 3k miles I use 10/30 oil with 200k miles on motor and still runs strong best 1/8 mi. et. 10.178 all stock...
4 sale BTW $2700 obo

Hmm, maybe thats my problem. I'm runing 10w40 oil in mine and it most certainly does go through more than 1 quart per 4000 miles. I'll try switching over, maybe some sythetic might help me out too. I know that when I switch over to synthetic that its going to knock alot of sh*t out of my engine and that I will have to change my oil again after about 1500 instead of 3000, this I have heard before. Correct me if I am wrong though. BTW, thanks for sharing the thread Honda3, maybe we can both get some good info/help out of this. Thanks to all who are trying to help us too!
