Default no0b comming from VW world, with questions....

Hey all, i'm new here, so take it easy on me

i'm comming from the VW world, my last car was a corrado (1991 G60 )

and my other cars i had were 3 sciroccos

But now i'm interested in the honda world out there..

i'm not so much into body modifications, but am very very very interested in engine modifications....

my plan so far is to get a later model CRX (perferably white) and do a GSR swap... and later on get a CRV bottem end for it...

now the question comes to mind... what all is out there in the web world for performance sites for these motors??

a few questions...
(don't mind me if they can't apply to well to hondas, remember i'm comming from the VW world )
can you chip a honda? or would it be better to get a JDM ECU?
intakes... do they make a difference on hondas at all for powerband? or are they just for sound?
do headers help w/ making more back pressure for hondas with an exhaust? and what size catback exhaust would be good?
would an upgraded FPR make a difference on a stock motor? or any motor?
what type of cams are avalible for both motors?
and last question i can think of... do they or did they ever make superchargers for these motors?? (i'm more of a charger freak.. not so much into turbos... had a 1981 datsun 180zx turbo, and the corrado which was supercharged)

so please help a No0b out

TIA!

Noah~

Best way to go fast is a turbo. A typical DIY turbokit costs about $900. And you can chip your own ECU just look into Turboedit, you can burn your own chips

welcome... i also used to ride the VWs out... a 1983 Scirocco GTi to be exact.

your GSR build and your B20 vtec build... will be different i think. it really depends on what you want to do with the bottom end of the B20 if they will be compatable. you cant rev the B20 like you can the GSR B18... so your cam selection will be different... well i hope it would be different.

i cant really speak too much more on B series as i dont as of yet have one built and tuned... basically i have parts laying around. but i know with d series motors the intake/header/exhaust/cat will pick up power but you wont see significant gains until you adjust the timing and air/fuel ... i would assume it was the same for B series.

btw i'll always miss my 2.0L webber side draft Scirocco............. SO much more power then my little D series for now!

nice dubs! i wanted a 91 GTI sooo bad but i got my crx insted if i were you i think that a GSR swap would be more then enough for your get up and go needs. Just build the valve train, get rid of the 2-stage intake manifold and get some JDM ITR pistons and the car/motor will scream! As for tuning parts, i would recomend getting a Jim-Fab or similair front cross member and then running a header like a JDM DC 4-1 stainless or even a 4-2-1 for more ground clearence. As for chipping, if you decide to go all motor or turbo you'll find a V-AFC much easyer to tune then hondata (dont buy genric ebay chips, they suck). Also a good exhaust would be somthing along the lines of a RSR EX-MAG II (i think thats what it's called, it's the racing exhaust). Also get a Skunk 2 intake manifold and CTR cams and you'll have one hell of a quick street car!

Coming from VW, any experience with ITBs? If so I'd go GSR with high comp and cams, then run some homemade ITBs with either a good custom chip or something a little better than Hondata that can do TPS/MAP fuel tuning.

thanx for all the replys! damn this forum is quick!!

and i have no experiance with ITBs.. i also had a 1989 golf i was going to either carb or ITB it but it got impounded one night in salem... ah well ...

but now the problem is this.. i need to find a good running CRX to have a project with and also to commute for now... there was one on ebay that my friend saw (she works with him and she knows quite a bit about cars ) she talked to him about it, he said he'd sell it for 4k... it basically was a motor swap from an EX with a turbo and all the trimmings and was pushing 200hp and 180 tq, but turned out he listed it on ebay while he said eh'd take 4k for it... oh well

does anyone know of a good CRX in the salem portland vancouver area?

TIA!!!

what does everyone think of these??

The first CRX has a swap in it... but its a B17
The second one looks promising if you plan on doing the swap yourself.

there is nothing wrong with a b17. most owners of the b17s will never let them go. My b17 puts down awesome #s with only i/h/e....don't knock it.

But yeah don't buy someone elses project unless its complete and runs correctly or you have the parts to make it work correctly quickly. who wants a car they just picked up to sit for months because you didn't have the right stuff.

if you want to do everything on your own good luck finding an un-modded crx.

EDIT* i also had a 1990 Corrado G60 and a 1988 Scirocco 16v....i miss my scirocco.

well the one i saw on ebay, turns out he'd take $4200 for it.

and shes seen the car there for months, never been in the shop for anything bad and it runs correctly..

and its' doing the 200hp and 180tq at only 9psi...

has a wings west body kit and a tegra GSR interior also.

it had alotta goodies but it got listed off of ebay so i don't have the info for it anymore.
