Honda Challenge Racers attention
Ok guys here's the deal.
NASA-VA has been working very closely with Carlisle Productions Custom Compact Nationals.
Carlisle is creating a .5 mile, 6 turn roadcourse driving circuit on which they want to run educational/time trial type of events. Specifically they will be highlighting this track and associated activities as a feature to their 35,000 plus show spectators and attendees on MAY 3,4,5.
NASA will be handling all on track activities for the weekend including a demonstration session by the Honda Challenge drivers which will occur on May 3.
Those Honda Challenge drivers picked to participate will be forced to be on track alot during the day and will also be forced to take along a passenger and "introduce" them to going left and right. Selected drivers will also be tortured with having to pose with several models for promo pictures.
Requirements are:
Driver must be NASA competition licensed (provisional is OK)
Car must have passenger seat and harnesses
Car must be asthetically presentable
Car must carry NASA stickers front and rear and on each side
Drivers must have NASA patches on racing suit
Compensation for your difficult day of driving fast and modeling will be:
$200
One free hotel room
As much VP racing fuel as your car drinks (for the day)
The following drivers have already been chosen:
Scott Giles
Jack Harris
There are only 10 spots that I can take so if you are interested please email me privately.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
where is the track located?
.5 miles, 6 turns is half the size of Jeff Circuit; man that is almost an auto-x, but it sounds like fun!
I think I might be interested if it is a reasonable distance.....

I have seen the track site in person and "fun" is definitely the word that comes to mind! Probably all 1st-2nd gear, but with some offsets & other challenges to keep drivers on their toes.

The weekend there is pretty cool too. Lots of rice, but also lots of cool stuff to look at (like trophy girls galore, mobile dyno, etc). Definitely a "must-attend" for any import enthusiast!

Hmmm, would you have a taker for someone such as this -
Driver - asthetically presentable
Driver - Nasa sticker covering front and rear.
Driver - can run around the track
Driver - Will be proud to stand around with models all day.
ceas..
(My mom always said when I was younger I could model for Sears or perhaps even JCPenny!)

Tee hee, if the layout is tight enough, I might be able to keep up with you >H5 guys! The only problem is that a normal weight passenger will ad almost 10% of my total weight. Hmmm, I might need Hoosiers for this...

Ok so why do we need to hold Provisional Comp. licenses to drive kids around a glorified autocross course - and why do we need driver's suits? Will the kiddies be wearing them as well?

The license part, I'm sure so you wouldn't REALLY give the kidies a ride they wouldn't forget (i.e... you spin). But, I dunno.

Hey guys, my name is Mike DeFord and I am the manager at carlisle putting this whole deal together with Chris. I want to thank you guys for the support. I'll give you some background. I am a road race guy, grew up ion a road race family and I have worked in the industry for 10 years. So don't worry, this is all real and it is being done for 2 reasons. The first is because import drag racing is stupid and enthusiasts are looking for something new to be part of. There is a push within the industry now for this type of racing. Second is that I am a road racer and what better way to get these kids addicted to what we are into? We are building this track for this use only, while it does kinda look like an autocross course you have to look at what we are doing with it. We are not holding races we are getting people involved and getting them some experience. We could have paved the whole area and done auto-x but I wanted it to look like a real race track.
Again thanks for the support, hope to see you guys in May.
Mike

This is something Chris and I have talked about for a while.
I guess it's OK to make it public now huh Chris?
This is a GREAT opportunity to expose a huge mass of people to both NASA and the Honda Challenge. This will be our single biggest chance to show these folks what can REALLY be done with a Honda and to secure some FANS for the series. Yes... fans.
Chris has opened the door on an excellent opportunity and we need to be all over it.
So far we have:
Me - Integra
Jack - Hybrid
Corey Jacobs - Prelude
Matt? (did he ever actually commit?) - CRX
Karl Shultz - Integra
Todd Reid? - CRX
We need a few more just ensure we have it covered.
Drew, you'll probably be eligible to do this by May, so mark your calendar if you're interested.
BTW - Shugg nailed the license and suit thing on the head. You need to look, smell, and drive like a racecar driver. Your car should be likewise presentable.
The driving part isn't an issue for this group, the rest is debatable

Here is what I propose: A handicap system where you get a one second "bonus" for each lower class you are in. H1 times stand as is, H2 lap times get one second subtracted, H3 lap times get two seconds off, and so on. So Corey's H2 Prelude has to beat Scott's H3 GSR by one second to win. Scott has to beat my H5 CRX by two seconds. I have to beat a H6 car by one second, etc. 10 drivers, $5 each. $50 goes to the best adjusted lap time. Who's in?
Matt
