When I bought my car @ CarMax on Friday they gave me two of the three keys. and kept the third since it is being shipped here. One looks to be a spare (black with the Acura symbol in white) and the other is the valet (grey). Don't our keys have the type r logo on them? I was just wondering if the key that CarMax has has the log on it. Did all three of ya'lls keys have the logo? Thanks.

 

The keys for the 2000-2001 model years have an immobilizer system built in it, meaning that your will not say type r on it. Only the 97-98 models came w/ R logo.

 

Ah, I see. That kinda sucks, but I guess there's so many people with the type r aftermarket key anyway that it wouldn't be such a great deal to have one. Thanks a lot.

 

Actually an aftermarket key will not work because it does not have the chip in it to disengage the immobilizer, meaning your car win't start. SO your stuck with the ugly key. By the way congrats on your recent purchase!!!

I have a pretty key.

 

I'm GLAD my key doesn't say ITR on it...just in case if I lost it.

 

I wondered the same thing when I picked my car up 3 weeks ago. The dealer told me about the immobilizer thingy. I guess we are stuck with plain, ugly keys

 

Also, 2000 keys have the red symbol whereas 2001 keys have it in white...

Thats so true. I seem to misplace my keys often too. Always get around to finding them though.

Hate to see if a Type R key fell into the wrong hands.
