My front upper control arm ball joint has been making funny "knock" sounds on hard bumps and/ or turns.

I know how it all works and all, but i'm looking for anyone who has this problem, or has had a ball joint fail, or have similar symptoms.

The obvious solution is to replace the upper control arm, but i want to see any alternatives first.
