Sebring this weekend & Carbotech
Well this past weekend was incredible. For those who didnt know, chin motorsports put on a track day on Sunday at Sebring. The course is incredible with a great mix of tight technical turns, with fast sweepers and 3 long straights. For the school, the full course was open (all 3.7 miles, 17 turns) The event was run very nicely with enough track time you could go out when you want and come in when you want.
My review on the Carbotech Panther Plus (On a 00 Si):
I talked to Andie from carbotech a good 3 months ago about a pad that could be an alternitive to the Hawk blue, the pad 95% of the guys doing the events run. He suggested the P+ saying the pad had awesome bite, no fade, almost twice the Cf as the stock pad, harmless dust eventhough there were tons of it!, and great wear on rotors and the pads themselves. I have to say all these things were 100% true. The braking power of these pads are incredible. I had stock Si brakes other than Ate fluid and they worked flawlessley. If you live outside of FL, the pads will be cheaper than Hawk blues. If instate, than tax will bring the price just under the blues. I would suggest these pads to anyone who has tried the blues and didnt like the lethal dust or how sweet the pads felt, or for someone who has never raced on a race pad (like myself) and would like an awesome place to start. Sorry for the long post.

I was there too and had a wonderful time also
I was running Carbotech Panther's on the front, stock pads in the rear, and Motul 600 brake fluid. Overall my brakes held up really well thru the day... especially considering I was hitting 100-115mph on the straights and having to brake down to as little as 30-40mph for one of the turns. The Panther's that I was running are one step below the P+'s and are a little more streetable in addition to being better for autoX situations (my original intent). I didn't start having any fade problems until late in the day and towards the end of a 30 minute session... not bad at all considering stock rotors with no ducting and the dust shields still in place!
After seeing how well run Chin Events are, I'll definitely be back!

OMFG I had so much fun too, I was able to pull about a 2:41 lap time w/ passengers and didn't record any times when I went solo, but I'm guessing I was able to run a 2:37 or so which I am happy with, but the highlight of the day was when Jacob was w/ me in the car and we were able to keep up w/ a new M3 on Hoosiers and a good driver for about 2-3 laps and then he finally let me go by. BTW the new Ecsta V700's aren't that bad, not a major difference over the Victoracers but they do have a noticeably stiffer sidewall
Hey were you the ITR with the comptech sticker on the back??
BTW I experienced NO fade at all and was running the Ate, with no front "heat sinks" Im pretty sure it made a big differnece with those removed.

I thought that the M3 was on street tires...? maybe I'm mistaken though... the guy driving it taught the second novice class session. It turns out that he runs an ITS Prepared 91 Integra in SCCA Club Racing and had some great advice on racing lines and how to pinch other driver's lines
Are you planning on going to the Roebling Road event or the BMW School on 1-25,26,27 at Sebring?

I'm going to be taking out the dust shields before my next event. Trying to decide whether to go to Roebling at the end of Jan...
Same here,, The Chin event at RR is 17 hours!!!! of track time spread out over the 2 days. I am trying to decide to go to that one, or the one at homestead on the 13th (i think) or sebring the next day. Too many choices!!
Yes, Weilding who taught the 2nd session had the silver M3 with brand new hoosiers. It was silly as hell.

Nope the M3 was on a brand new set of Hoosier road race tires, and it is an ITA 91 Integra he runs in Club Racing, actually his son gets most of the track time in that car Ernie Wilding was his name and he is the V.P. of Chin Motorsports. He is a great instructor and so is his son John.
If you don't mind a passenger, I'd love to ride along with you for a few laps the next time we're at the same event...? Maybe pick up a few tips while I'm at it too
Soooo many track days coming up... just have to decide which one's I can afford to make it to.
That makes this all even more impressive

Yeah, no problem I would have given you a ride on Sunday but there was so many people I had promised a ride to and a few didn't even get their rides. I am broke as !@#$ so I might not be going to any events for awhile, I need to replace my axle, driver side motor mount and get a real seat before I go again. I also had a problems w/ VTEC cutting off a few times. I think it was caused by lack of oil, maybe it's time for an Accusump or something else. I'd really like to try out Homestead now since I saw some good video of it Sat. night in the hotel lobby. I'm hoping to be able to make it to the Sebring long course event in April or May whenever it is. I will not go again w/ out getting my Sparco seat this time I am still sore from my stock seat not doing anything for me and I was strapped in real tight w/ my harness.[Modified by B18CJDM, 6:54 PM 12/11/2001]
I'm with you on the $$ thing... I'm pretty broke too but with Xmas coming up I might be able to scrape up enough cash for another event soon
If you're having problems with oil pressure maybe try running with an extra 1/2 quart or so just to help keep plenty of oil around the pickup? I've read about people doing that at the track to cut down on oil starvation under high G loads. If I don't see you at an event, I'm sure we'll cross paths at a CFR autoX. BTW, I've been thinking about going to an Icebox and maybe a header so I might be in either CSP or SM sometime in the near future
I actually was running just under 1/2 quart extra cause I had heard something bout it before but didn't solve it for me. Yeah, you should come run w/ me in SM and give me some competition.

wonder what mod to do first...? guess probably Koni's or AGX, then header, then airbox, then brakes
I think the AGX's would be a downgrade for the R. The yellows kick serious *** James and I both have em, they are sweet. Not sure for the R but they made the hugest different on my grocery getter civic Si. As for the brakes,, not much improvement that would make a huge difference for AutoX,, id just swap out stock fluid (if you are still running it) to some Ate or the new Motul RBF 600. Again, James and I are both running the Ate and it rules. Your thinking about the comptech ice box right? I have it on my car and its a pretty sweet mod, for an intake. Gave a lot better response down low which i despretley needed as well as some great gains up top. Good luck.

Actually turns out the Speed isn't FIA approved so I'm going back to my original plan of this one instead. Sparco Sprint
Xian, if you get AGX's and disgrace your R like
that well let's not talk bout that just don't do it, your car deserves Koni's.

you could always go with a corbeau forza for $220 and is FIA approved. Thats what I plan to get for my next seat since I will be club racing my new car.

Well, I'm running Motul RBF600 right now and have been pleased with the abuse that it took at Sebring. I managed to melt a hole in the dust boot on the driver's side front caliper
going to have to fix that... probably go to one of Brian Hasty's brake upgrades down the road and see if I can sell off my stock calipers/rotors. Koni's will be next in line for mods and then it's on to a power adder or two.

Actually, I am getting a killer deal on it and I like Sparco's alot more than Corbeau. The retail price on a Sprint is only $219.

seems like a really reasonable price too...
That looks like you'll have almost enough support to keep from getting thrown around too much
