Comptech ice box or ARC ice box which one is better????
I have a comptech icebox right now but am afraid to suck in water do to where i live Washington State cause it rains here frequently. Im interested in the ARC ice box so just need some help which one you think is better from experience wise. I like my comptech but just scared to suck in water.....
I live in Everett, WA and did a year with my AEM CAI driving all over the Puget Sound without hydolocking once. You'll be fine, just keep your eye out for huge puddles.
It could happen, especially with the velocity stack pointing towards the ground on a very low car.
If you sucked enough up to inudate the filter with water it would end up in your motor in a quick hurry.

I understand what you are saying, but I really just can't see it taking place. The comptech is just an oem style setup with a snorkel. This is extremely different from someone with a regular or 1-piece cold air setup as that is essentially a straw. To flood the comptech, I'm pretty sure that you would almost have to submerge your entire front end .
Yeah your totally right, but it could happen. Just a reminded to not go romping your car through flooded streets because you think you have the insurance of an ice box.
But it is a lot better than an AEM filter on a stick set up down by your tire.

Almost impossible to suck up water with the comptech ice box. If you look on the snorkel there is a small hole drilled out, this will not create a 100% vacuum of suction through the intake. Ever try drinking from a straw with a crack in it. Now you know what I am talking about.
The ARC box is very over priced for the gains you get. It does look very nice, so if you want a show piece, this would be it.
Comptech is also not cheap, but their parts are proven on the circuit. The gains people post up on the Comptech are also pretty impressive.
As for CAI's, I'm in the BC/PNW region, and I hear you about the rain issues. I have a friend with a CAI, and he commutes everyday over 80 miles round trip, and has NEVER had a problem with water consumption. Even (this is the best part) with his filter acting like a fender liner (due to his being somewhere other than on the car), he's never had an issue. AEM also makes the bypass valve, so give them a look too.
