Default Kamikaze header coating...

Im looking at this header for my 98, http://www.mmrusa.com/kamprelude.htm
I was wondering if the ceramic coating really helps with the heat and is worth the extra $35
Also if anyone knows where i can get this for less $$ i would appreciate it.

-Thanks-

its coated with ceramic so it doesnt rust my friend, has nothing to do with the heat.

not sure about the nickle plated, but the polished DC sports POS I had turned to a nasty rust color.

just a side note for ya, I've read that the 4 into 1 headers are only good for high RPM. but I've never tested it myself, just somthing for ya to keep in mind.

usally 5th gen headers are 2 peice 4-2-1 for clearence issues. nickle plated is like, chrome plating, just a coating to "protect" the actual metal.

your better off with that rebadged DC look alike then you are with a kamakazi. the kamakazi is designed for supercharged ludes and will cause a loss of power on your car.

If you want a good coating. Get the same thing the guys who run turbos use for their turbos and manifolds. I forgot the name, but I know the forced induction forum has some threads on it.

Wait so i was right, it really does sheild the heat?

So back to my first question, does the ceramic coating help that much?

dude, someone prove to me that ceramic coating does anything for heat. WHy is it that upon asking numerious companys (including DC) "whats the ceramic coating for???" It protects against rust! Scratch off a little bit of the coating and tell me what happens genius. Its made out of friggin mild steel. Want to have some sort of heat barrier?? Get some heat wrap and wrap it up. If heat were such an issue, why is it that turbo/crazy N/A builds are running stainless without any sort of wrap or anything, without any heat issues.

Alright, lets just say for the point of arguement, it might keep your engine bay a little cooler. How are you benifiting from this with a CAI? i bet you a great deal of money if you touch it you are still going to take off atleast 3 layers of skin. Someone, please explain.

Im totaly lost on the whole basis for wanting a ceramic header. Its cheaper is all i can think of. Also likes to crack if you bottom out or anything like that due to it being a weaker material (mild steel, hence it being lighter weight as well)

What happened to ur "mugen" header their cheif? its ceramic. and neon lights are the gay.

I sent the "mugen" header back and got a refund.
And as for your neon lights comment i like them, so f**k off...
You dont have to like them since its not your car, i didnt get them to impress you or anyone else.

if they are not to impress, what is their purpose? does it make you feel better knowing that the ground is lit up a pretty pink or something ?? Im so sure the rocks enjoy it. no but seriously, why have neon lights? Does it help with aerodynamics?? The light disrupts the incoming air hence a faster quarter mile time ?

Here's a quote from there: "This unique ceramic-aluminum coating process reduces ambient under hood temperature while increasing horsepower. Performance benefits can be attributed to: combustion chamber stabilization and reduced under hood temperature due to the improved air density; increased gas velocity due to the heat retaining properties of the coating; and better laminar air flow due to the elimination of oxide scale on the header's inside diameter."
-----------------------------------------------------
http://www.jet-hot.com/pages/whyjethot.html

let me quote from here too: "Sterling reduces header-surface temperatures by over 50%. Sterling cuts engine bay heat, saving you money on plugs, wires, fan motors, water pumps and other heat-sensitive parts. "

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 98TypeSH &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Alright, lets just say for the point of arguement, it might keep your engine bay a little cooler. So I suppose since you have a CAI, you can break the rules of physics and your intake pipe and intake manifold will miraculously not absorb any heat? I guess you might as well have a bon fire in your engine bay since it doesnt matter how hot eh? Why don't you take a look at your intake charge temps while your driving around with your CAI and tell me if its actually ambient tempurature.

Thats funny, cuz mild steel is more malleable than stainless steel, so how do you figure it will crack easier?

Frankly, I think you are just lost in general, forget about just ceramic headers,

w0rd. You win. how many people have a ceramic header?

Hmm i guess all these people that design and produce stainless steel and that have specifically said that mild steel is weaker are just as lost as i am then.

I was saying that the heat difference between a ceramic coated header and a straight steel one, doesnt justify its purpose in being coated. If heat were really that big of a problem, dont you think everyone would make/sell ceramic headers??

As i had stated before, i still dont see the reason behind this. Has anyone had a major heat related issue directly associated with their header ?

its not so much the NEED for ceramic coating to reduce the under the hood temps, because you really don't need it. But reducing temps is always good, and for the ppl out to extract every ounce of power, all these little things add up,

Are you gonna supercharge your automatic, or convert it first?

I think im going to SC first, i know that sounds bad for the tranny but im going to do my best to not go crazy with it.
Is it really going to tear stuff up for me?
The manual swap will cost an arm, a leg, and one or two ********* so i dont want to do it unless i have to.
But i would enjoy having a standard

Then I'd say take off the mods you have right now, sell your car stock, buy a stick prelude, and go from there...

No way you'll get 300whp with a JRSC and I/H/E.

well the ceramic does really help the engine stay cooler, me and my brother just to check, which one was hotter after letting it sit for a bit, we both had agreed that the engine was hotter then the ceramic dc sports header i have. so it does actually help
