Default Exhaust Advice Req,

I currently have a 1999 5th gen UKDM 2.2 Motegi Prelude (H22A8).

I'm still debating whether it is worth getting a performance exhaust of some sort. I don't want a custom. It's going to have to be bolt on.

Now I know my car shares quite a few parts with the Type-S and I believe the header is one of them. Is it worth getting a new header and cat back system and hi flow cat. I think I will need all three parts due to the UK cat being a different size to the JDM & USDM cats.

I was going to go for a Mugen header > CAT > Cat-back system. Very pricey but would I notice the difference? What would be the gains roughly?

I'm open to suggestions...

You are definetely right about it being pricey. With Mugen headers and exhaust you will definetely notice the difference. But I bet you can achieve adequate gains with cheaper parts.

get a Fujitsubo header, high flow cat and fujitsubo legalis-r cat back.

i believe the header can fit a 5th gen, even though it was made primarily for the 4th gen.

Listened to their sound clip on the website. Sounds quite loud.....but nice, not sure if it would attract too much attention tho. The Mugen exhaust is pretty much same as the stock until VTEC so people tell me.

Thanks for the advice tho, had never even considered the Fujitsubo exhaust before.

If I had somthing to record sound on I'd record my stock JDM exhaust, its the original that rolled out of the factory with the car, car's a low mile'r and the waddig/muffling material must have worn down or somthing because at idle its bassy as hell and in VTEC it sounds like an aftermarket one.

anyway whichever exhaust you get, get SMSP header for the power gains, SMSP header is the Daddy!

Just checked prices of both Mugen and Fujitsubo systems and the Fujitsubo cat-back is slightly MORE expensive than the Mugen by about £60 ($107).

yeah, the legalis R is pricier, and I think they're both all stainless. Both are probably really good choice, I've never heard in person a Legalis, just from that clip on their website. I heard a bunch of twin loops at Natl. Prelude Meet '04, and they sound great. If you go mugen on the cat back, get the fuji header, it's cheaper and supposedly flows really well, almost too well in fact!

Yea but would I have to have some sort of custom job to 'mate' it all together? Still unsure that the 4th Gen header will fit the 5th Gen.

I just got my DC SS header, and a titanium Tanabe ultra medalion cat-back. It is a very nice set-up and my butt-dyno can feel significant gains. Also, the exhaust is not as loud as I expected it to be considerring that it is a full race exhaust. It also comes with a silencer (baffle) that I have yet to try out.

After many hours of reaserch on this it apears that the Mugen & SMSP headers are the ones to got for. The cat-back systems seem to be down to personal choice and sound.
