Finishing order for The Great Header Test!
fyi-there is still a slim chance we may get the JG / Edelbrock piece... I'm talking with some execs there but it's short notice so it's up in the air....

Will there be a winner? Correct me if I am wrong, but won't some headers be more suited for different types of driving, like track, drag, street, etc.?
Like brake pads, isn't there a bit of give and take with headers depending on what you need the most?

where`s Pacesetter?
therefore it was excluded.......unless you want to send us yours, then we will run it

Just curious, maybe I missed it, but what does HyTech do exactly to the JDM Mugen?
So maybe the same thing.

Seeing as most of the headers on the list are of the 4-2-1 variety, it's too bad that you don't have a JDM Mugen 4-2-1 to test... It would be interesting to see how it stacks up against the JDM competitors. Anyone in the area of the header test have one available?
I was hoping to debut a new stepped 4-1 at the test but just won't have the time to finish it. This header will have a staggered tube collector like the Mugen.
There shouldnt be a "Winner" this should just be a guide to give people an idea of what headers will perform on a close to stock ITR
The problem with test like this some tend to be just looking for how much it cost and does it get me the most power out of the bunch which is not always the best thing. If you track or do SCCA solos you need header with mid range punch because your barely ever going to up peak power except maybe in straightaway or on drag strip. As I careless about dragging I rather track my car on race track any day then drag it. To me HP doesn't mean much unless you can actually use it if you can't whats the point? Both Toda and Spoon are road course type headers because they give alot mid range but may lose some on the top end since thats how they were designed. The only reason to have 4-1 on the track is if your gear ratios and fuel and air are setup to only use topend. Problem with that is if you ever drop out vtec you will lose out in your lowend and mid range and the lowend of the Type R is low enough as it is stock. For me anything the helped the bottom end helps alot in the R just for driving around town type fun. As when my car was stock it really was bad stoping on steep incline and trying to take off without roll back which normally meant reving the car up good bit to get her going which is not good if the car behind you is police and blue lights you for reving up like your going to do a burn out which they do alot in my town.
I haven't seen many different headers on type r's, but all of the people who have put on the JUN header around here have loved it.
I personally had a dc 4-1 with a 2.5 collector on it, and when I put the JUN one on I gained in mid-range and top-end. It is a great header. I hope it does well, but that is because I have it. I have a lot of faith in the hytech, smsp, and the spoon header though.

Picking a header is personal preference, it depends on where you want the power
it's not always about peak hp
If you drag, then go for a 4-1 header
If you race on road courses, go for 4-2-1
Personally, it's all about midrange power, look at the Type R camshafts. They have great midrange without a doubt. The itr is meant for the roadcourse
