Default Purchased new car--We have problems now.

What's up fellas I just purchased a 91 Si w/what seems to be a ZC in it. However I'm a bit confused because the Valve cover says SOHC V-Tec and the block is stamped with just plain ZC on it. Now do I have a D16ZC or what engine code. It's too dark out for pics, but I'll try to get them up tomorrow. Oh yeah the kid who I purchased the car from informed me that the V-Tec isn't on at this moment. In any case I'll take pics of the cruddy engine bay and post up so that you guys & gals can help me decifer the engine in there.

Thanks

Nah it's stamped ZC on it beleive me. I'm dazed & confused about it. It's not stamped D16 it's just plain ZC on it.

Exactly. Is it similar to the d15b? I know the d15 is 1.5L, I was just wondering

Pics will be up shortly. I remember reading that there's three different types of ZC engines that were made, but I would like to know which one I have.

lol, this is great.....

its most likely a SOHC ZC block, with a SOHC VTEC head (d16z6)

does the head have the vtec solenoid?

Thats a good start for a engine especially if you didnt build it. Get a few add on's and you should hit 15's

Yeah I didn't build it, but soon I will. It has a CAI that I took off and put in my current car because this one won't be running for a while.

Maybe some of you could help me out here. Got the car started, but the CEL is on and the LED on the computer is just straight blinking. Is there anything I should look for that isn't wired up other than the V-Tec. LMK please

Thanks in advance

The car starts when comepletely cold, but once it warms up its bogs and shuts off and won't start back up. CEL came on. The codes I got off the ECU Led are as follow:
3 flashes Pause
13 flashes Pause
14 flashes and then it goes back to code three.

Should I bother to test these trouble units or should I just replace them? If I replace them what engine or model & year car should I get them from since it's a SOHC ZC. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

you got the codes, now do you know what they mean? whether you should replace your motor depends on your budget, and seeing that you bought this car as it is, you should troubleshoot each of the problems. plus its fun and gives you some quality time with your "new" car.

check out http://www.pgmfi.org or use the SEARCH button to find out what the codes mean. Search on Honda-Tech will be your best friend. Good luck.

No, I know what the codes mean. MAP sensor and EACV, but I'm just confused about what make & model the parts should be purchased for....that's my real question. I'm going to test these parts when I get home. I figure I'll just take them off my current running car and see what happens.

Okay anyone that can help me out or give me suggestions I will gladly apprecaite it.

When I got home this afternoon I noticed something above the stock MAP sensor being unplugged. Plugged it back it and tried starting the car. It started up and the only code I was gettign is #3.

Let the car warm up, but I had to help it out a little bit once at full temp it just shut right off. It'll crank and crank, but not fire up. Anyone know if the MAP will cause this to happen?

Anyone with suggestions or tips ?

Thanks

Bump to the top

Update up above.

Car starts up and warms up, but then it shuts off once it's at full temp and won't start back up until it's completely cold.
