To all the people that went to VIR this weekend:
Ehh, I hate you guys.... so... so very much.
No, just kidding, but I'm really REALLY jealous after reading all your posts! Glad to hear everyone had a great time! Wish I could have gone!
...that's all.

Haha, well unfortunetly I live in AR, and the closest tracks to me are Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas (4.5 hours away) and a little track in the middle of no where about 30 minutes west of Tulsa, OK (3 hours away) called Hallett Raceway. I've been there 4-5 times, it's a challenging track, just not all that nice compared to the pics I've seen of VIR and other "big" ones. Plus the "crowd" at this VIR event seems to be much more fun from what I've experienced elsewhere. In other words, I'm often the only sole Integra, let alone Honda there. One time though, an NSX club from Texas showed up. Nothing like getting your *** handed to you by 6 NSXs!
I think Texas Motor Speedway and Heartland Park would be my best bet for a good track weekend with some import people showing up. In fact I think the gang from vtec.net had one at TMS there a few months back.
Hmmm, let's see here on mapquest how far to VIR shall I be?
Heh, it's only 1042.3 miles

I know there's no way you will believe us but... it's worth it. VIR *is* that good!

Hmmm, don't tempt me!!
Mapquest says 18.5 hours for the drive, but it's always over.
Anyone want to take a stab at this?

If we get any more people at that track then we had this past weekend it's gonna get pretty crowded. Us beginers were crowding each other off the track as it was!
Seriously though, it was the most fun i have had in too long a time. I did some stupid stuff my first few runs on Saturday but by the end of the day on Sunday I was feeling pretty comfortable with the car and the track and my times had improved dramatically (although there is still a LOT of room for improvement).
I have nothing to compare it to but for a complete novice I think that VIR is a great place to learn. The track is very fast and challenging but fairly forgiving and an amazing ammount of fun. I learned more about driving this past weekend than I have in the past 10 years.
Thanks to everyone who I met, who encouraged me and talked Hondas with. I didn't get to meet all of you and i'm terrible with names so please forgive me if i see you again and can't remember who you are. I'm sure i will see many of you again in February.
BTW, I was the guy with the red 92 SI hatchback hybrid with DC plates. Actually I think i was the only one with DC tags at the event.

"So you were ONE of the 4 red hatchback civics!"
LOL, Yeah, real original. It seems like everyone and their crazy aunt has one. At least mine was cleaner, if not quite as fast, as the other ones. I plan to work on that second part.

I recently went on an 8000-mile road trip. Seattle to SLC to connecticut (on i-80), up to Boston, back to CT, then out to Wisconsin (Road America), and back to Seattle.
We covered 841 miles in 12 hours on the way down to Salt Lake.
We covered like 700 miles in something like 16 hours on the way from CT to Toledo ohio, because we took a longer lunch stop, and had to deal with heavy rain for a lot of that leg. Weather plays an important role.
But if you can hold 80-90mph for extended periods, you'd be surprised how fast the miles roll by. I *highly* recommend you get a Valentine 1 or similar high-quality radar detector. It's likely to pay for itself in 2000 miles of 20+mph over the speed limit, not to mention what it does for your daily driving and future road trips. It's definitely worth it.
I think if the weather's good, it's reasonable to expect to be able to cover 1000 miles in 16 hours, especially if you've got someone in the car with you.

Heh - I dunno if I could get anyone else I know to share the driving responsibility, they'd all want to bring their SI's and EG's too
yeah, we had two cats from stinking Mass this weekend each over 800 miles away!!
Definately worth the Trip Mapquest listed it as a 14 hour drive took me about 12.5
