Default B20B or B16A?

For my 1990 CRX HF. I like the idea of having loads of torque (the B20) but I also like the idea of having 160Hp out of the B16. Im also over on Sh5 forums and asked the same question. But I like more than one opinion on things so I figured id ask here too. Right now I can get the B16A out of a 88-92 SiRI for $599 or I can get the B20B out of a 96-98 CR-V for $749. Dilemmas plague my existence. Any inof or opinions would be great.

Yea thats a good set-up bro "Poor Mans Type-R" </TD></TR></TABLE>

The only problem here is that this setup is not as cheap as the whole 'poor man's' title suggests. In fact, a P72 block is more expensive than a P3G (B20) block! As for B16A vs (non-VTEC) B20, power output is actually quite similar between the two. If torque is what you want, then by al means go non-VTEC B20. You might be disappointed if you go LS instead of B16A. But you WON'T be disappointed if you go B20.

don't go b16 head gsr block, it's nothing like a type r unless you change the piston other wise the engine will be like a b16.

Whaaaa....

hahahaha! Yeah right! It's still a 1.8! Granted, it's lost a bit of compression due to the combustion chamber style, but it's still a 1.8! I repeat, still a 1.8! It has torque, and will make more power than a B16.

Yeah, I hear Honda makes a good ecu for that application.

I would think the 85mm B18 would have more torque...

who in the hell is going to put a crv ecu into a civic? you would have to re-pin just about everything...

a non vtec b20 if built right would have a pretty nice power band though...

I gravely disagree with this statement. I personally went from a B18B to a non-VTEC B20. And let me tell you, the difference is not at all subtle. A non-VTEC B20 is better than a straight LS in every way a motor can be better.

Simply put, the B20 puts out more power throughout the entire rev range. Especially in the low end. The torque curve of the B20 is more flat throughout the rev range whereas the B18B produces less low end torque and only really starts to build torque at around 3000-4000RPM. And while the B18B feels limp even in a light Civic with an LS transmission, the B20 pulls those relatively tall gears no problem. The bottom line: never shrug off the difference between an LS and non-VTEC B20! If you ever drive a Civic with even a non-VTEC B20, you will be wondering what all those people who call the LS 'torquey' are talking about.

wouldn't having vtec be so much better though? if i had the money I'd have a vtec b20 with 11:1 compression.
