Default Painting CF Hood

Yes I searched but it didn't help much. Has anyone painted over their cf hood? Anything you need to prep before paint? Did it come out clean?

Scotchbright the whole hood to take off the factory polish. Base coat, clear coat the entire thing. Only thing I have noticed is that it has a little wave to it, cause it is carbon instead of metal.
Hope that helps.

It is NO different than painted your stock hood, you just got to scuff it up so the paint sticks. How good it looks is going to depend on the weave of the hood.

Is the little wave really noticable or not really a big deal

i dont have pics, but have seen it done a number of times. as was stated above... it needs to be preped the exact same way you would metal. once prepped, paint away. the finish depends on how well its prepped. i have seen them come out looking better then some metal hoods, and i have seen them come out with very very slight weave. It all depends on how good your prep and painter are.

good luck, it looks better imo.

That's my car. They didn't do any special prep work to the hood AFAIK. Word of advice though, my painter said almost every cf hood he has ever painted has had a lot of noticable pinholes in the paint from poor manufacturing on the hood when they coat the resin. My abs dynamics (jdmshit) hood, according to him was the easiest to paint since there was no pinholes whatsoever anywhere, and easiest to mount, he said it lined up like oem first try with no fiddling.

Anyway, here is some pics, the hood doesnt line up with the bumper perfect because my rad support is mangled.

na, I had it painted before it went on the car. The quality of the hood was flawless. Tightest and cleanest weave I have seen on any cf hood in person.

Ill try to get pics of my homies eg w/ a painted c/f hood, he got it done clean. Just a few coats on the hood so that from far away u couldnt tell it was c/f and when u got close u could see the weaves, looked good.

i'd honestly rather have my car all one colour and still have light weight parts. CF as a fashion is not cool. thats why you see post about how to fix faded CF hoods...LOL... just paint it and forget about it
