I'm not sure if this is the best place to get unbias opinions but.....

I'm looking for a new car and really fancy a good performing Japanese family car.

The Accord looks like a good option (although I'm also looking at the Mazda 6).

The 2.4 Type S looks particularly attractive - and used models with under 10000 on the clock (and sometimes with a few "extras") are going for around £16-17k in the UK (via dealers).

Any thoughts on this car and the sort of prices / issues I should be considering ?

Good point. Mazda = imported Ford; Ford = SUCKY, therefore Mazda = SUCKY. I'd rather get a 4dr Toyota Tundra or Toyota Sequia (sp).

how did mazda become part of the issue?

and also... mazda is only owned by ford, the only thing that is ford related when it comes ot mazda, is the tribute... every other car mazda makes is their own brand, materials, worksmanship. saying mazda is ford is like saying ford made the rotary engine... ford is a ****** genius then

according to car&driver, the new mazda 6 and mazda 3 is based off of the focus, like the "hummer" h2 is a tahoe w/ a refridge on top....also, the rx7 stopped production the year ford took over, and its "successor"...the horrendous rx8, anything that has anything to do with ford after 1970 i will never touch...course i'm coming from a corvette family so i may be a little biased

based on a product...and mirroring a product are 2 different things...and what you dont realize about the focus is that they are actually a very reliable car now. back in 2000 when they first came out, they had recall after recall and problem after problem. but now, 2004+ hell even the 2002's don't come in hardly ever for service problems. the only things i see them come in for is oil changes, rattles, and cosmetic problems. i see EVERY car that comes into the service shop and i drive every car. i get to feel all the problems first, and hear about them. i was even considering buying a 2004 SVT focus after i was hit by the old man. these things have become reliable great cars. i only see mazda getting better and better, and ford is catching up too.

now dont take this as me being a ford lover...when it comes to hondas, i hate ford. ford just isnt my style. but hell, gotta hand it to em, they know how to make a truck, and they are slowly learning how to make a car. don't get me started on the new 6 litre diesels tho....good god....

With statements like yours, I know your car will always be slower and outhandled by both the 2.3L Mazda 3 and Ford Mustang. If not just because it is weaker, then because you must also suck at driving.

Statements like this only express your close-mindedness.

i bet itll always be outhandled and slower than the Mazdaspeed miata MX-5 as well

 

ford had nothing to do with the rotary motors conception... but yeah ford is not all bad. and I give them alot of credit when it comes to the rx-8.

that may be so, but i would rather be driving any honda vs. corky romano's miata, not saying anything about the performance of the car, i just would never drive/buy/ride in one...

 

did corky have the Mazdaspeed edition? ive never seen the movie cuz it looked like a huge bubbling cauldron of ****...

the mazdaspeed mitata, for those who dont know, is a hopped up miata... turbocharged, stiffer suspension, handles even better than the normal miata, which already handles like a gokart. can you imagine the drive? my god...

 

like i said, i dont doubt the performance, but its still a miata, scottish kilts may be mens clothing and all, but they are still skirts....
