Dohc Zc Vs B16a
Some Guy says that a b16a will beat a Dohc Zc Engine....
The Mods are exactly the same... 3 main bolt ons Cai/exhaust/headers.
which one would be faster in the quarter mile.

well i'm no expert but i'll say but i'm going out on a limb and saying the b16a...it starts out with more horsepower then the zc and pulls harder in the higher rpms....and lets face it the dohc zc is a good engine but the b16 is the perfered......
It also depends what you put the motors in. Weight can mean a good deal, but if you put them in the same car (say a CR-X), then the B16a will surely beat the hell out of that ZC. Especially if they are both tuned right.

this is an absolutely stupid topic. compare specs on both motors and that's your answer. a higher HP and a lower HP motor...if they are in the SAME car, doesn't the higher HP motor win? i mean, assuming both motors are in proper running condition and the car is as well. stupid.
Well i heard a ZC would be faster cause of the gear ratio and cause of the TQ compared to the low tq powered b16a.
yes the b16a has 160 hp and the zc has a underrated 130...
but also the ZC is heavily resricted compared to the b16a?

Driver skill has to play a huge factor, but 85% of the time (yes I pulled that # out of nowhere) the b16 with the same mods in the same car with an equal driver and equal gear ratio will always pull away from the ZC. - Darrell

Two weeks ago I ran a 90 crx HF with a dohc zc motor, he had Cai, dc 4-2-1, dc sport exhuast. I have a 95 Vx B16a Sir-2 with Cai, Jdm Dc 4-1, Greddy Pe exhaust, skunk2 p28, y21 lsd trans. First gear I pulled 1.5 car, 2nd gear another 2 cars, 3rd I destroyed him by 3 more cars. So by the 1/4 mile I'll easily pull 7-8 cars on Dohc ZC's. I run 14.7 @ 94 mph, the ZC setup will run a good 15.5-.6 run. and yes he is a good driver. By the way his car is also lighter than mine

I always get a kick out of the whole stupid torque argument. People talk about ZC torque as if they are comparing a B16A to a Chevy smallblock or even a B20. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!!!! The ZC is just a 1.6 liter like the B16A. Torque is pretty much the same between the two. One might be higher than the other at certain RPM ranges. But agonizing over any difference amounts to splitting hairs. Because neither is going to be ALOT higher than the other at ANY point.
As for gearing, the B16A certainly wins here. You can't get any better than a B16A/B17A/ITR transmission when it comes to gearing for acceleration.
As for power ratings, I have never seen a ZC dyno I was very impressed with or one that suggested that its rating of 130HP is conservative. Honda did not design the ZC to be a special motor. And as for being restrictive, yes, the ZC head is somewhat. But it will never be able to have the large ports and valves of the B16A because of the size limitations of the motor itself.

This apples and orange comparison sh#t this week has been horrible. Please stop benchracing D vs B series powerplants. They were both just built for different reasons. And in no way am I saying that the D series cannot be made for a race application, rather that the B series motors are more suited for it. Also, I definitely believe many of you are underestimating the ZC by far. http://www.thezcr.com/forums/s...times Those are a few of the track times for ZCs. More than a few of you will be rather surprised by the #s those little engines are putting down with very limited modifications. Remember, we're just getting into aftermarket support for the ZC head, I mean there aren't even any aftermarket cams that aren't outrageously priced or regrinds. And the motor can't be just written off as trash or else why would very reputable companies like HKS and JUN make parts for it? Again, apples and oranges in some way or another. Give it time and I am very sure the power of the ZC will surprise even the most skeptical. - Darrell
So he's too stupid to look it up...the discussion is always going to come up.
The 88-91 ZC was rated at 130 ps. That means 128 hp.
Proof directly from Honda? Right here:

I would prefer an 88hf with a ZC over a 91 Si with a B16...

in most cases the b16 is gonna win. but the driver plays a big part. i have a 91 si with a zc and took on a 90dx with a b16. we did a 3rd gear pull on the highway and i started pulling from him. also my lil bro took on an ek hatch with a b16 with his 88dx with mpfi.
my bro ran a 15.3 and our friend ran a 15.8
