Getting new brakes......what type pads/rotors??
It is time for me to change my brake pads, but I am not sure what type to get, or what type is the best?? I looked at the AEM pads....are these good? anyone have them?? I autox my civic, so I also wanted something good for the track?
I am also planning on getting rotors, but I think I might just stick with the stock ones? Would this be a good setup?? I know I can get slotted, but is this a good idea?? Thanks for any suggestions.......brakes are not my specialty

the porterfield r-4S work great on the street and auto-x...
but are a little messy...
will work ok for about 1 track day

Personally, I wasn't very happy with how the R4-S pads performed at VIR this weekend. They glazed, and towards the end of sessions their stopping performance greatly weakened. I would imagine they would be a good street pad though as they didn't seem to dust that much. My next buy will be the Carbotechs or Hawk Blues
Any type of solid rotors will work.. DO NOT GET CROSS DRILLED OR SLOTTED.. Not worth the money!! And, they won't stop any faster.. They only reason to change your rotors would be if they are REALLY worn or warped..
R4S is not good on the track, check your brakes, you may not have any left.. I ran the carbortech XP pads this weekend and work flawles, NO fade and have TONS of pads left! Great Job Andie!

??? well, on karl's accord he only was able to install his power steering pulley and it seems to have made a big diff. I guess?? might have to have his opinion, but he surely ran a hell of alot better in the 1/8th!! and it wasn't just the weather
Has anyone ever heard of the search?!? I believe this question has been asked about 10 times (minimum). In fact, their have been some huge threads even recently. Sorry, just had to vent!

well....my original intention was to keep my stock rotors b/c they have some life left and get new stock rotors for when I need em changed, and get a good set of pads for autox as well as street....something that doesn't wear too fast!! but everyone keeps giving me diff. opinions, not sure if this is helping!??
The Panther Plus will work very well on the track, and can also be driven on the street, if you wish, because it is very rotor friendly, and has good cold stopping power. However, I do know some of our customers switch back to the OEM Honda compound for street use, which is actually a better street compound (runs quiet, lower dust, wears better, etc. - it IS a street pad, while the Panther Plus is a "streetable" pad).
As for the R4S...I think it is a great street compound...good for auto-x...marginal for hard track use. Incidentally, I changed a set of pads at Sebring this past weekend for an ITR...he said he had Porterfield R4S. After installing a set of Panther Plus pads for him, I looked at his used R4S pads...they were, in fact, NOT the R4S, but repainted Metal Master pads which were painted black and sold as R4S. You can draw your own conclusions from this...
If you do 70-90% street driving, and 10-30% auto-x, then I'd get the R4S (and hope that's what you actually get) or stick with the OEM Honda compound. If you drive on the street and go to the track 3-5 times a year, then the Panther Plus will work well as a cross-over compound during the track season. We do have a dedicated auto-x compound - 913 Kelated Metallic - but unless you have a dedicated auto-x car, this is not recommended, as it does not wear particularly well on the street, and has a tendency to be noisy and dusty.
For rotors, stick with plain, vented rotors - x-drilled and slotted rotors are just for looks - this is a long discussion altogether that I'll spare you guys at this time. There's some history behind the reason for drilled and slotting rotors. Bottom line is...stick with your OEM Honda rotors or Brembo blanks, and remove your front dust shields to allow the rotor to cool for efficiently on both sides.
Drop me an e-mail at andie@carbotecheng.com with any questions you may have on our compounds and applications. Details such as the type of driving you will be doing, suspension mods, etc. would be helpful.
Regards,
Andie

i change out my panther plus from the track, gives me better life on the pad and I just can't deal with the squeaking when cold, but they are fine on the street, just remember that your braking distance is going to be shorter than everyone else's
Andie..... when are you going to make it out to one of our events?

EDIT: um, looks like you got a bunch more info while I was typing this, so it may be redundant, oh well - I tried.
CivicGirl114,
I think most people here will agree that:
1- buy Brembo OEM replacement blanks (http://www.collettimotorsports.com./ is one good place to get them, roughly $100 shipped a pair for the fronts, they may have specials going, ask...) for rotors if yours are warped or very worn out. If you are into looks, then maybe you do want slotted, but they don't really have a big performance advantage, if any.
2- Andie at Carbotech REALLY is very good about giving you advice, and is not shy about telling you if somebody else makes a pad better suited for your needs. Give him a call, or IM him on AOL (HomeDepotNSX). He is a very nice guy. I personally bought the Super Street F compound for my 'teg from him. It is quite good on the street, and I haven't taken them to autocross yet, but I think they would do a great job there too. They also have a Silver 912 compound that would probably work well for street and autoX. But just call him, he's the expert - and they have good customer service (how many companies can you call up and bug the VP of marketing and development on a near-daily basis?)
3- people on this board have not had good experiences with EBC brakes, for what it's worth.

One of these days, hopefully.
For the most part, due to work and related business, I'm limited to events in Georgia and Florida (Homestead, Moroso, Sebring, Daytona, Roebling Road, Road Atlanta, AMS, etc.)...would like to drive VIR North Course one of these days.
