JDM vs. ATS Final Drive..
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ATS FD has a deeper gear ratio. Unless my ITR was my TRACK ONLY car, I would go with the JDM FD since it has more *street-able* gearing.
There's some guy on here who jocks the ATS and says he beat a Lightning in his B18C5 hatch. But, most of us drive pretty fast on the highway sometimes, and I don't know if I would do it if I were you. I think you'll be a fine Stoplight Assassin with the JDM.
Ross ~ I bet that story is true.
I beat a new Lightning at the dragstrip a couple of months ago.
Then again, I did cut a great light on him. haha. He must not have known WTF he was doing. LOL!
I've been told the ITR even *stock* will drop .5 in the 1/4 mile with the JDM FD.

I'm the guy with the ATS 4.929 in the B18C5-powered hatchback.

It actually wasn't my first choice of final drives - my 4.78 got lost, and my car was torn down, so i got the ATS and a GS-R 5th gear for cruising rpms.
i was a little scared of it in theory, but after i drove the car I knew I probably would not have enjoyed the JDM 4.78 as much. AGAIN lets not turn this into a pissing match between JDM and ATS owners.
My biggest thanks goes to Rodney for reassuring me about the ATS. He told me about his experiences in his car, and that had a big influence on getting mine.
Those who tell you that it isn't streetable may not have even driven one. i've driven mine on a daliy basis and it's just fine. I'd even sat it's BETTER because you don't have to down shift as much to pass - you're always going to be able to power through the gear you're in more easily.
I'm not sure what affect it had on me beating that Lightning - never credited the ATS for that win - take all things into account such as power-to-weight and driver.
It's worth the extra money in my opinion - let me know if you're really interested in getting one. IM me.

Last week, we put in my ATS as well. Very nice.
Used a GSR 5th gear and it's not bad on the highway.
Did the Comptech 6.7lb. aluminum flywheel and Clutchmaster Stage 1 at the same time. Man, this thing revs like a bike.

Kick-*** Mike...see what i mean about leaving it in the gear rather than having to downshift? What about those times when you really wanted to shift to first to take a slow corner before, but now you can leave it second and rip through more easily?
to those of you with the ats what is your rpms at 80mph in fifth gear
same question to the jdm people, what rpm are you at 80mph in fifth gear
i do alot of highway driving and i am always around 80 so i really need to know before making a decision...hell i am already at 4000rpm....btw i have a gsr fifth gear so mike k what are you at 80mph in fifth

For those wanting to mess around with gear ratio and stuff try this link: http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi
somehow i dont believe that calculator
70mph = 5400rpm with the 4.929 gear ratio in a gsr tranny...i dont know about that...those that actually have it installed what is the rpm at 80mph in 5th

I have the ATS w/ GSR 5th.. 195/50R15 tires..
on the highway it is about 200rpm higher than stock ITR.

If you're worried, just run an ls 5th... And to quote rodney: "tell your mama when she's cutting the crust off your pb&j sandwiches!"
The only problem I have w/ my JDM final drive is that 1st gear is really short so I have trouble getting traction w/ the 1-2 shift, or maybe it's my crappy tires
