Default No power over 4000RPM , 2001 accord coupe vtec

Hello everybody. Im getting a 01 accord coupe, 4cyl vtec with manual trans. Its a car from a dealer and i went to test drive it today.. I noticed some "problems" with it (that are gonna be fixed by the honda dealer before i buy it) but i was wondering what it could be exactly.

The car has 72 000km, when i started it for a test drive there was a check engine light on.. everything is running smooth, no wierd noise.. after passing 70km/h the speedo needle starts acting crazy (either f*cked up speedo cable, or vss sensor bad), then on the highway the speedo needle just go dead to 0 and doesnt move anymore..

I decide to try it at high rpm, but to my surprise, my old 230 000km accord exr pulls incredibly more.. Ok i know the 01 is heavier (especially that my old one is totally stripped now)
The new one i was driving was pulling great in the low end, until 4k rpm, but past that, no power at all, the rpm continues rising, but the car doesnt pull at all, nothing.. and im wondering what it would be..

anyone?
thanks

I don't know but do not buy that piece of **** car. It sounds like a lemon look for one that is in better condition. I know some people that had problems with there Spedometer in there Jetta and they had it fixed by the dealer then went to sell it later and carmax and places like that wouldn't touch it because they said the guage cluster or whatever had the seal broken even though it was by a dealer so they couldn't sell it and no one wanted it because they said they couldn't be sure the milage was correct. I wouldn't want that happing with a car I was buying and also if it already has these problems what else might be wrong with it? I definately would not buy something that already has that many problems. It is not that old anyway and no telling if they fix it all. Don't walk away from this car RUN.

definitely something wrong with that car. the dealer sounds shady to me if they're letting you test drive a car that has a check engine light on. simply put, that's stupid on their part. my guess is that whatever is causing the code, is what's also causing the car to not have power in the higher rpm range. for the speedo, well, i dunno.

sue em for possibly endangering your life by having you test drive a car that could have blown up into a firey hell and consuming you alive. and settle for them just fixing the car and giving it to you for free....

loll you guys are funny , i get your point, but the car hasnt been inspected mechanically before i test-drove it. they just recieved it and i was fast enough to see it before they would even prepare it for sale
by the way, its a digital speedometer, it cannot be falcified manually by opening the cluster
I will see the car again before "delivery" to make sure everything is alright

I still wouldn't buy it it sounds shady like he said and sounds like your getting ripped off. I hope there nearly giving this car away because I'm willing to bet there is a lot more things wrong with it.

i dont think so, i checked everything on it, i know really well the accord.. the cas is simply amazing, except for this little problem, the engine runs smooth, no wierd noise, shifts really well, all accessories work perfectly, the only thing is that there's nothing over 4k rpm..

they are preparing it and next week im going back to see it and re-roadtest it.if its alright then, im taking it. anyways i still have 90 000km warranty on it

It could be fuel, ignition or cat related. Too many possibilities.
