Default 1991 Accord EX 4dr Auto ECU Problem

Hi,
I have a 1991 Accord EX 4dr Automatic problem.
My odometer will occasionally go off while I'm driving & the SPORT mode light will blink on/off and.....sometimes the car will bog down as if the fuel injector is sputtering, then it will go back to driving perfect.

My question is ...will my local Honda tech's computer REALLY tell me if my ECU/TCU is bad...does his computer really do that function?
Thank you
Steve

No, the tech's computer will not tell you if the TCM is bad.
When you say the odometer stops working, could you posibbly be referring to the speedometer? Because if the speedometer intermittently stops working and the
S-light starts blinking at the same time, you most likely have a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor).
I doubt that the sputtering you mention is transmission related. Under what driving conditions does it start to sputter?

Sounds like vss or vehicle speed sensor.

When your speedo stops working do you get a code?

For the sputtering, I would check the plugs and wires.
Do you know how to check the wires for carbon tracking?

I changed the plugs about a month ago, but I don't know about carbon tracking.
Today I got a new VSS and the speedometer now works.($220.oo w/labor!!ouch)
Thank you
The computer showed error code 17 for the ECU which was the VSS..done

but it also showed error code 9 for the TCM/TCU which is the countershaft
sensor which I had replaced 1-1/2 years ago? so now I don't know what to do about the Code 9 TCM error code....Do I have a bad or burnt TCM??

Sputtering...carbon tracking?I don't know
Once again I can't thank you enough for replying to my post.
(sorry if I'm annoying you guys w/so much praise)
Steve

Steve,
Carbon tracking is a common condition on Plug-In-Head engines. What happens is that instead of the spark traveling through the plug and firing in the gap, the spark travels down the outside of the plug and then misfires on the head. Carbon tracking is evidenced by a distinct white line inside the plug wire where it fits over the plug. If you remove the plug, you'll find a corresponding black line etched into the plug's porcelein.

1 more question. I have a 1991 Accord EX 4 door Automatic Sedan
How can I tell what model engine I have if I bought parts off websites Relays etc...
My engine sticker inside the hood says:
132 cid 2156 cm
MHN 2.2 V5 FEF1 A2

on rockauto.com It gives me these 3 options:
1) 2.2L 2156 cc L4 MFi [F22A1]
2) 2.2L 2156 cc L4 Fi [F22A4]
3) 2.2L 2156 cc L4 Fi [F22A6]

On hondiscountparts.com it already gives me this Model:Engine: F22A1,6
Which model is this compared to above(rockauto.com)
Thanks for reading this?
