why do ppl tape their corners when they roadrace?

Ever have a rock hit your headlight or corner marker at over 100mph?

 

To protect the lens and protect the other drivers.

If stones or other debris hit the lenses, they can crack and/or break. Broken lens = shards of sharp high-impact plastic...or worse, glass...on the track. Which means flat tires and potential disaster.

 

Because it is mad-tite y0!

I was wondering that too. I figured it had to do with rocks or debris shattering them. I was hitting over 90 in the uphill esses and over 110 on the back straight. If something hits you at that speed it's gonna do some damage.

Help prevent chips... and to keep stuff off of track when it breaks.

Now... how can I tape the windshield to keep the chips off of the cheap azz Honda (SOFT) glass.

It also make clean-up easier in a wreck. All the glass/plastic is taped together.

And... it's tizzite.

Or maybe if you had a really big sheet of 3M Stoneguard... Though your vision out the windshield would probably have that "staring through layers of plastic" look that you get with helmet visor/goggle tearoffs. Lots of annoying reflections, I would think.

 

i wish i put tape on my amber lenses when i was at the expo. After and off course incident, somehow my corner lense came off and i ran over it! how embarassing.
