if you have a stock exhaust system, its usually your heat shields. Jack up the car and feel around to see if metal is rubbing on metal anywhere...basically take off the heat shields or bend them back
OK guys, I fixed my rattle noise that EVERYONE seems to talk about. I had this rattle noise on my '94 GSR and I fixed it in my '95 GSR. So here it is.
On another thread I read that the rattling comes from the A pipe aka downpipe from the exhaust manifold (headers). I pulled everything off and inspected the downpipe and if you look at the entire stock headers it's really big in diameter but when you look inside the tubes it's not so big. Basically there's a pipe inside the cast iron molding (pipe within a pipe) and what happens is, it breaks off from the outter cast iron piece. Then when you rev to 3,000rpm it will rattle.
I put in some DC 4-2-1 headers and it fixed the problem instantaneously. Of course on other cars there may be other sources for the problem such as heatshield. Just check everything, but the really loud annoying one is usually the stock headers.

Me and my best friend had this same experience with the rattle in the stock header. If this is the problem, an aftermarket header will fix it for sure, but one thing to think about is that it might not be that. About a year after i put on the aftermarket header, i got another rattle that came at all rpm's. I swapped my catback exhaust with a OEM gsr exhaust and it solved it. I would Jack the car up and run it in first gear with a friend nearby to look to find exactly where the rattle is coming from.
