Default Sunroof help needed --searched

First, i searched and went through a bunch of old threads and didnt see anything to help.

Problem: Stock sunroof on a 91 crx si will not close on its own now. It acts like the sunroof, when opening, falls off of one of the tracks. When trying to close it, it gets stuck just under halfway closed.

From what i can see, though, it is designed to come off these two metal tracks when fully open. I cannot see which side is broken, the way it catches, however, leads me to think it is the passanger side which is fuxored.

Anyone have this problem? and fixed it? I really like the sunroof, and would love to keep the functionality of it.

THanks you guys.

I just bought a 91 CRX Si. Last week it started having this problem as well. I tore it apart and found out that there is a plastic slider on both sides. What it does is allows the parts that raise and lower to operate. one side of the plastic arm is attached to the slider and one side is attached to the lever that moves in and out to raise and lower the sunroof sliding arms. You are correct about the sunroof coming off of the sliders though. Thats how you remove the sunroof itself. To remove the rest of the sunroof or any other pieces, you will first have to remove the panel from the outside. Then remove your headliner and unbolt the actualy sunroof assembly. Once thats free you can then see the parts that are broken and remove any parts necessary to fix it.

It's only meant to come off the sliders when it's being removed. There is a bolt which holds a small curved piece of plastic over the end of the slide. If this becomes damaged or falls off or swings out of the way, your roof will have no "stop" at the end of it's travel and will keep going and fall off the end of the slider. That sounds like your problem. Get the little quarter circle bit of plastic and put it back in (you can do it with the sunroof about 1/2 way back) but you may have to take it off to see where the bit went. I replaced my sunroof last month and didn't bother with the plastic bits but when I test slid the roof, it fell off the sliders so I had to footer about trying to get them back on (it's a bit of a fiddle and you can't put them on before fitting because you need to slide it on using the end that they fit over). Have a close look and you'll see what I mean. If you want some dodgy pics taken with my camera phone, let me know.

There is a pdf file I posted in this thread yesterday about crx sunroof somethings wrong with my sunroof

That plastic piece in the picture is a common problem. Its part of the drive assembly which new from Honda is around $150. Best option is to locate one in a junkyard.

mine used to have a problem opening and closing all the way, i think i ended up breaking some plastic tabs or something in there because it looked like they were causing it to hang up and it didn't look like they served any purpose at all anyway.

Do yourselfa favor while you have it out and clean the drain tubes and the whole assembly while its out. Dont forget to grease the tracks back up when your done. I cleaned out my drain tubes and I havent had any water leaking into the hatch yet.

can someone measure how far the front of the sunroof should be from the back interior opening when it is fully open? (Sunroof front to the back of the opening from the inside)

Looked at it again, and i cannot see anything broken. Waiting for the hurricanes to pass before i take it apart.

Jdm knight, is the top exterior panel and the interior frame rust free? if it is, how much you want?

If one or both of the drive links in the picture posted are broken, you won't be able to see it without dropping the roof. But like the others have suggested, I'd tear it down completely while its out and clean and lub it up real well before putting it back in.
