You want to use the highest octane gas to prevent detonation. However, if your engine doesn't detonate on 87 or 89, then there's no point in using higher octane gas. If you think your engine is detonating under load then stick with a higher octane rating. In a 10 gal tank the price difference is only $1.00 or so assuming .10 difference.
