Default Gear ratio gurus:: question about the B16 cable trans

Ok so my situation is that i have an 85 crx with a B16 in it but its got the y1 trans in it so its rediculously short gear ratios. While thats fine for acceleration and around town it absolutely sucks on the highway which it where i do about 40% of my driving. An idea i had was to swap out the 5th gear of my trans with that of an LS cable transmission but i wanted to see what you all thought about it. If it is going to be too expensive ill most likel just switch the trans out for maybe a B17 trans or an LS cable trans so how much do you think its gonna run me.
I appreciate the help,
matt

The Y-1 is actually a slower geared transmission. We call it the "JDM LS" transmission due to its 4.2 final drive ratio. The J-1 is kin to the Y-1 but comes with a factory 4.4 final. So you may need to go with a USDM LS transmission. A b17 is a USDM GSR which will not suit your highway needs at all. Depending on price if you can come up with a USDM LS for a decent price, than go for it

dude, if you have a b16 and you install a LS tranny, you are going to be hating it. You will have **** for accelleration. I would suggest getting a LS 5th and calling it a day........contact GearSpeedEF9 and he can hook you up

and if you need someone to install the parts, I am rather proficient with working on transmissions....check out my sig
