Default Exhaust Ticket

Whats going everyone, I got an exhaust ticket for the second time. I was gonna swap my exhaust , but now its mandatory. Anyone ever get out of this or go to court to fight it? Post your senario and what you did, I don't want to let that damn copper get his way. Oh and by the way it was an Apexi Dunk.

Woops, sorry I didn't elaborate he said "Any exhaust that is not stock is illegal in the state of Virginia." This in northern Virginia and these ******** have nothing better to do. Anyways I just did a search, and found that you could get it signed off if you go to a police department with a stock exhaust on. But that person was from California, does that hold true in Virginia as well?

man that sux, i dunno how it is in Virginia but in TX cops dont really give a **** about huge *** mufflers. I used to run a Skunk2 on my 96 civic (totalled) w/ a cleared cat that was loud as **** and never got pulled over for it. Do you know if the dunk is 50 state legal or what? that cop must have been a dick

The dunk is pretty loud, man. If you want an aftermarket exhaust, I suggest you run custom piping and have a couple of resonators to help with the sound. Or just get an Apexi WS.

I know Greddy sends a certificate stating their exhausts are within the law for decibels produced. So you might want to try them.

first call the police station and ask what exactly the vehicle code states for the code you "broke", if it is something like "illegal modifying of exhaust" or something like that, u could argue it was a replacement - not a modification, but i could not find the va vehicle code online to see what it says about exhausts, but find out what exactly the code says and let us know from there

[QUOTE=h22mark]"Any exhaust that is not stock is illegal in the state of Virginia."QUOTE]

Unfortunatly this is true, its a silly attemp to "curb street racing."
Several friends have been affected by this, and I havent seen a way to fight it yet.

I even pointed out that my exaust is aftermarket but no louder than stock, but the cop said the law said "louder than stock."

Va sucks, driving will probably be the next thing made illegal there.

lol, i think we may have found a more **** place than california. If its illegal in your state, your totally fuct. swap it and then get something real quiet and paint it flat black and just blend in.

Ive gotten an exhaust fix it ticket 1 time and thats because i pissed the cop off so bad, he couldn't pin anything on me. So he gave me the fix it ticket just to be a dick.

Least here in CA if its not louder than 95dB its not illegal. And, anything altered after the cat does not alter emissions.

CA is worse because they check for mods other than exaust, from what I've heard if they pop your hood and see a swap or turbo your Fed.

In VA I havent heard of that happening, I think its because the cops are not smart enough. They wouldnt know a turbo from a horn. As long as you have a front plate, legal tint, and stock looking/sounding exaust your fine.

Then there is the cops who tried to talk my friend into saying his Evo's stock exaust is aftermarket. "look stand behind my car and listen, now I got a big V8, how is that 4 cylinder louder?"

Cops here are just as stupid. They dont pop your hood and say " oh dude you should have gone for the B18C, higher compression..." They have no idea what they are looking at. Its kind of obvious you have a swap when there is nothing in your engine bay, and you could fir 3 people standing infront of you header.

Its also obvious you have a turbo when all of you IC piping is all bling and shiny. If it was all flat black, and sleeper style, you would have no problems.

The people cops usally tell to pop their hood are the ones with big cans (like me N1)

And with CF hood and nice rims, and what have you.

Its not loud at all. With a stock muffler its quieter than my lude. It has pretty hot cams stock though and a lumpy idle as a result. That cop didnt know shieet

Yes SRTs are mufflerless, but the evo has a pretty restrictive muffler.

Actually I think this cop was a dumarse because he kept aking if I had NOS also saying "If I looked under your hood I won't see NOS right?", and I said "nope why?" he said "because you have a sticker on your car is why he was asking." Unfortunetly the sticker was a NASA proracing sticker now either cops need to go back to grade school to learn to read or they are just plan stupid. As far as the replies thanks keep them coming.

Heres the indside of my car, I really don't know where I could hide NOS, that thing hanging is a G meter and I don't have that anymore because it looks like a radar detector which is also illegal.

Well it depends on on your state, VA is a bunch of ****'s, oh and by the way the reason he might have pulled me over to is that he mentioned this after he was done being a bully, "Yeah most people with cars like this are gang related or have some affiliation with a gang." I think this Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority police officer should go to the airport and protect the air travlers and not waste pointless time on stoping people for "improper eqiupment (ashcan exhaust)" which was written on the ticket.

If u got a notice form apexi saying it was 50 state legal. then u got something to fight with. The other thing is find out what the highest sound can come from your exhaust i forget what its called, but off the top of my head i think its 75 (i live in virginia too). they sell a tool at radioshack it measures the sound def of your exhaust if its under 75 or whatever the law requiers then u take that to court too.

if you have NOS in Va you can have it in the car as long as the lines are not hooked up. I got stopped in my CRX and the cop was like whats that hump in the back. I was like my Nitrous bottle coved by a towel, wanna see. he was like sure so I showed him. He gave me the song and dance about it being too tempting to have in the car. So I told him I'm not out racing around I'm just breaking in my clutch (which was the truth) So he let me go. just dont give them any more reason to mess with you.

I hate to say it bro, but I got too many of these. Your best bet is to take it to a judge and plead with him. Its illegal for sure which is gay because according to Va law your not allowed to change your exhaust from stock, or its considered illegal. Cops might have not busted you earlier on this before but now they are starting to enforce this law alot harder. took me 2 years to get my first ticket with my Apex n1. I ended up getting 2 within 6 months. Your best bet is to plead to the judge you just found out that it was illegal and to comply with Va state law you have now changed it back to stock.(take a pic, or have someone take a pic of a prelude with its stock exhaust on) If the judge is nice (50/50 chance) You might get away with it. Then again you might not, and since you would end up taking it to court it would be more then just paying it right then at what i believe is 85 bucks. Where as if you go to court it might be more like 100something. Your choice to do either one. But theres one thing you gotta ask yourself, do you feel lucky? haha

Nope i dont think thats possible. What could they do? Theres a law that says its illegal. Only way to get passed it is by going to court. Good luck bro. This ones for you.

This is another reason why I like living in MD.

So, you are not even allowed to change your exhaust even if it isn't any louder than stock??

Thats right. Anything other then stock it cant be changed. Im sure MD is the same, check your law books. Its probably just like Va 2 years ago, they just didnt enforce it. Look it up amigo, now you got me curious.

Go there its a list of the crap they can pull you over for in Fairfax County, check for coasting in neutral thats crazy. Anyways I'm gonna go to Midas and get a OEM replacement exhaust and show the judge the reicept, and hopefully he/she drops it, or just order one from Honda or a online store show the the reicept and picture of it on my car.
