Default d15b vtec smokes for no reason

i have had the jdm d15b vtec engine in my car for 6 months now and ever since i installed the y8 intake manifold the thing smokes. it smells really rich and air/fuel ratio is always rich. it is obd1 with a p08 auto ecu, header full exhaust cold air. it just puffs out black smoke when you accelerate. compression is 170 on every cylender . i just wonder if anyone knows why in the heck honda motors tend to smoke some times like this with so little of miles.

I'm running a p08 ecu as well, but for a manual tranny. Mine smokes ever so often when I'm hard on it in 3rd gear. Are you losing any oil? I'm running rich too, black soothe on the bumper. No ecu codes. What color is your smoke?

yeah it has to be a valve seal or something , i just need to get the ecu chipped to run right.... valve seal isnt much of a big deal, kinda makes sense since the engine sat for six moths before i installed it. no afc on it yet, running a single wire 02. deffinately way too rich , and you can tell the richness steals power because it tends to pull harder gradually getting on it.
