what is the difference between differnt size wastegates? someone explain in detail please advantages and disadvantages of bigger wastegates ect.

 

those are the sizes. the bigger the wg is the stronger it is at holding low boost with a big turbo. because it can physically bypass more exhaust gas.

 

The numbers refer to the size of the valve that is used in the wastegate.

so why would you use the 35mm instead of the 38mm, 38 instead of the 40mm, blah blah blah?

35's are no longer being produced, 40's are a wierd step, if you want something bigger than a 38 I would just jump to a 44mm tial. A 38MM tial is good for 95% of turbo hondas, but in some cases people do get boost creep with them and move up to the 44. Chances are you only need a 38mm gate.

35mm is fine for low boost on a small turbo. just as an example:

10psi on a t3/t4 54 trim u would be fine with a 35mm.

10psi on a T70 u would be better of with a 40mm.

wastegate are used to lower boost not raise it, the lower the boost pressure is set the more flow the wastegate must allow. the T70 needs to bypass more exhaust than the t3/t4 to sustain that 10psi

 

im running a hybrid...38mm base with 40mm diaphragm..its a tial..

 

so lets say with a sc61 or a t3/t67 , 38mm , 40mm or 44mm? the 44mm seems a little too huge to me and expensive too. does it really make that BIG of a difference?

 

go 38...you'll be fine..

 

funny thing w/ the Tial W/G's. they 38mm, 40mm, and 44mm all have 35mm openings. And on the 44mm, the big valve is just gettting in the way.

The 38MM should do fine. I am running a B16 with a blox mani, SC61 with the TO4S comp housing, 3" downpipe, and the tial 38mm holds boost great, as low as 7 psi using my AVC-R.

interesting. seems like 38mm would be best choice for the buck.

 

The 44mm vband is a pretty nice choice
It makes it alot esear to get on and off. You have to have the vband manifold though

I concur.

I have a 60-1 hifi turbo and experienced pretty severe creep with the 38mm tial. Bought a 44mm tial... and what do ya know, no more boost creep. And BTW, Vbands rule.

my next investment if I cannot solve my creep issues... tial calls it a high pressure 38mm I believe.

 

Ima rock the 44mm just because it has vband bling!

 

You have to go bigger when you get more efficient on the turbine or go larger on the compressor wheel. Cause both those changes cause more exhaust to exit out the wastegate w/ out passing by the turbine wheel. Basically the consequence of having too small of a wastegate is it won't allow you to lower the boost to the minimum spring pressure. Now, the question is, when do you really need to upgrade? Personally i think everyone upgrades way too early. 38mm is probably all you'd ever need on a street car unless you had a serious crazy set up. The only cars ive ever seen/heard of having wastegate problems is methanol cars. I think the different a/f ratio for lamda/stoich could have something to do with that but I am not sure.

 

I'm running the 38mm with a 1 bar spring. Inline pro manifold no boost creep. The problem I have is I keep blowing those darn wastegate gaskets so I'm running it without one now, and I haven't had any problems. Does the 40mm or the 44mm have gaskets as well.

 

Are you running Tial gaskets? they suck. Turbonetics makes good gaskets if u need one. No gasket should fine, the carbon will seal it.

I don't run gaskets either and never had a leak.
